Gentlemen,

I need some help with this Abrams.

http://www.micom.net/oops/Nosedive.jpg

Bumper codes? Are there any special markings on the rear or the other, invisible side? Where is the Miles antenna attached? Any Hoffman device somewhere? Also what is that big round thing in the middle of the hull's front?

Any help would be highly and graetfully appreciated.

Peter

Sorry, after the link click on MiCom.net/oops then select nosedive.jpg

The bumper markings are not visible, but it is a B Company tank because of the skirt number 32. The "2" designates B Co. The downward pointing chevron indicates a third platoon tank. The company marking would be B-31, B-32, B-33 or B-34.

It's a USAREUR tank because of the RAWLS (rotating amber warning light system) on the back of the turret. Not to be confused with the MILES kill light which is barely visible just forward of the commander's hatch.

You can also see the MILES sensor belt on the turret just below the turret sponson box. It is next to the tow cable.

To add to Sabot's reply, the Hoffmann rack is probably mounted to the left side of the turret using a bracket that secures to the four bolts on the top of the turret that is left over from the manufacturing of the turret. The CVKI "Kill Light" is also secured to the turret using the same bolts. My guess for the location is CMTC AKA Hohenfels in the 14 Tango Bowl.

The Miles Antenna, used for giving the vehicles position to "Star Wars" is attached to the Kill Light. Its barely visible, but its there.
The Hoffman Device is attached to the left side of the turret where the smoke grenade stowage box is mounted.
The round(ish) thing on the front slope is the Mine Roller Attachment. Because this is mounted it tells me that it is either B-32, or B -33

Have you all noticed that the guy is posing just under a pair of spare track links (just hope they are secured...to save him some serious headache )

I knew I had seen this pic before. It use to hang in the Master Gunners office of 2/37 AR BN in Friedberg, Germany. I am not sure if the unit had been reflagged from 2/67 AR when this pic was taken or if they were 2/37. I could never get the history behind the incident. But it looks like the Bravo Team Maintainence had a fun time getting it out of its predicament.

Dear All,

thanks for your precious help! One more question if I may, are they chevron-type or bigfoot tracks?

Peter,
That tank has T-158 track or in modeler's terms "Bigfoot" track.
