This is a scan of a scaned photo, so sorry for the resolution. I have been asked by the owner of the photo to identify the tank. Apparently the grandfather is the one in the photo and they wish to rebuild this tank. I however am a modern bulder and have no idea what this is. It looks to me like some prototype at Aberdeen but what is it. Please help. Thanks.

Ah! Got it! It's the T29 Heavy Tank (or possibly the very closely related T30, both of which existed in the prototype stage).

Edit: Going by the pictures, I think it's the T30, since this picture seems an exact match: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:T3001.gif

Jeff--if it is of any assistance, the vehicle is on display in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. Located on the median just the other side of the museum. If you go there just ask at the museum.

The original photos are of a T29E3. The rangefinder "ears" on the turret give it away. Patton Museum has a beautiful specimen as well as T30 and I believe a straight T29. I'd really like to see this family kitted by Dragon or anyone really. Dragon seems to have a thing for experimental tanks though. These big fellas would be a nice counterparts to the big German tanks.

This is a T29. It used the T5 105 gun and was similar to the T26E3 but lengthened to hold the massive new turret.

The the T30 would be essentially the same tank, but with a Continental air-cooled motor instead of the Ford.

the series ended with the T34 heavy tank which led to the development of the M103 heavy tank program (theres one near my house at the Tank Museum in Danville Va.- its a real MONSTER!) with the 120 mm gun T53.

Found some clear pics of the tank. Album says Aberdeen but this looks like Fort Knox.

Not sure if the difference matters to the Grandson but the stereoscopic rangefinder marks this as a T29E3

That would be a great model to build. Kinda like a Sherman and a Pershing got together and had a son! Standing next to it at the Patton Museum, it was pretty huge!
