I have read the new rules seems great! Nice change. But it says prior months winners are ineligable. Is this just the previous month's winner, or all previous winners?

Well this submission system stinks. Spent 10 minutes uploading 2 photos (yes some people can't get hi speed in their area) while uploading a 3rd I decided to open another window and do something besides twiddle my thumbs and all the attachments were gone when I got back. Life's too short ya know.

John,

Only the previous month's winner is ineligible.

And that rule won't start till this first month of the new rules are finished. So nobody is ineligible this time around.

Mike - Even thought this format supports multiple files it's still safest to zip them first (under 4mb) and send as compressed files. But damn... how big ARE these files your attaching?

Mike,
Then they probably wouldn't go thru our system anyways. Most web servers have a file maximum for online forms (ussually from 2-5mb) and a maximum attachment file size for emails as well. Our server has a 5mb max file size for both.

I realize that Google, Photobucket and many other commercial sites are spoiling users with unlimited upload sizes for files, however on about 98% of all the other sites and servers out there, there is a max size. It's a performance/security thang.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Found that out! Tried to upload a 6.?? Meg zip. After a half hour or so I got the message. For everyone's benefit-each file can be no bigger than 2MB with a total of 8MB available per submission.

Mike,
Doh... sorry about that. After I read your last post I went and double-checked one of the settings for PHP. Sure enough it's currently set a 2mb upload max per file. I will change it tonight to 5mb.

I am not sure where the 8mb? is coming from though. The help desk application is suppose to have a max 5mb set but I am not sure if that is per file attachment or total. I think per file.

Leaving files that large for web viewing is generally a waste anyway. My files I submit (using jpg) are rarely ever more than 300KB. That is still a pretty large file. Downloading one of the many free file size batch utilities can make your life a lot easier when you want to submit to the contests and remember to use copies of your files so you still have the originals in the big size.

Also keep in mind .zip will not compress most graphics formats any significant amount at all. It is just useful for providing a container for them.

Hi Jim,
The old rules stated staff couldn't enter the DMoM contest, have the new rules changed on this.
