Here are a few shots of the first 8 of 20 figures for my Mekond dio, details posted on Dioramas/vietnam. They're works in progress, and my first 1./35th figures. My first ANY figures, for that matter. They need a little work, and some weathering, but I'm waiting to see what the earth colours are going to be to amtch up properly. Comments welcome.

Now you've got it. The skin tones look good. Are you going to shade and highlight the uniforms ?

Nice work although the guy with the M16 looks a little old with the beard

The guy on the left? He's a verlinden fig... seems old Francois liked to depict Vietnam war heroes as beardy types like that - he also sculpted a (gigantic) pipe smoking figure, seated...

The flash from the camera has washed the tones out a bit - I've done some trials with pin-washes, and Vallejo retarder to highlight and blend, but I need to matt the uniforms down a bit to see how that's worked. Got the weekend to myself so will try then...

Ps thanks for the image help - think I've got it now...

Really nice figures Richard. Good blend of uniforms and skin colours. What colour did you use for the coloured soldiers?

Many thanks... The black soldiers' skin tone is a mix of vallejo burnt cadmium red, burnt umber and german grey. Can't remember the ratios, but there's alot more red in than you'd expect. In fact, all the skin tones have that in. It's as if I'm painting the flesh from the inside out; primed with very pale chalky/sandy white, then lots of deep reds and browns as washes, then paler and paler tones until the depth of colour is obtained... I want to try oils though as I think the blending will be easier and also the natural lustre of oils is more akin to flesh...
