Best color matches are Testors Model Master Dark Green, US ARmy/Marines Desert Tan, and flat black. I am not sure what those colors equate to in Tamiya or Gunze, sorry.

Other scheme's I have seen have the tan replaced by gray; This is usually a Siberian Military District scheme. There is also a green/gray version, and a tan/brown version.

From some of the photos I've got, the grey is w/ a more redbrown color and the black is w/ a sand / tan color (the green always looks about the same.)

Thanks Neo.

The problem with doing some of the Russian Cammo is that in the early 90's it got real "relaxed". The Grey/Red Brown/Green scheme was primarily with units leaving E. Germany.

Here are two links to pictures of T-80's that show some of the general cammo patterns:

T-80 Link 1

T-80 Link 2

As for specific colors, sorry I do not have the paints readily available for the specific gray color. Looking through the above pics should help you get the idea. It is a medium gray with a slight bluish tint.

Thank you Gentlemen.
The grey/red brown/green scheme looks very interesting,is it suitable for T90s?
Jacq,is it possible to apply the Siberian scheme to T90s?
Thanks.

Best info on the T-90, (quickly) is Vasily Fofanov's webpage, look on the left for the T-90 link.

I do not have any photos of the T-90 in the Siberian/Ural District paint scheme, but do not let that discourage you! The Red/Brown, Green, Gray scheme has only been seen on T-80B's and -BV's so far as I know, and was not a "official" cammo scheme. The T-90 pictures I have seen shows them in tan (for the export -S model), Tan/brown, and sand/green/black.

Found another one in the stash - it's a 90. Colors look good, don't seem to have shifted alot in the photo.

Gents,
The 'yellow' looks like some kind of tan/brownish-yellow,I think the colour (dk yellow)that DML suggests in their T72m2 & T80UD is wrong.
Is the black in cow-foots or large patches?
Thanks.

There are, in reality, two kinds of yellow.

1. one that really is very yellow, like mustard. This has mainly been seen at the military expo shows with tanks from factories. I do not ahve any photos of tanks "in the field" with this yellow colored cammo, only from the Expo's.

2. The other is the tan you see above. This is where the Model Master US Army/Marines Desert tan color matches almost perfectly.

So DML did not get it wrong, they just chose to represent a SHOW version rather than a "serving" version, probably due to information available at the time.

As for the black, I have seen both "crow's feet" and just black "patches" in photos of current use tanks and other vehicles. Either appears to be ok.

Hey NEO, where is the picture from?

It does not look like a T-90 in Russian service, as the cammo scheme is two tone (the black is fromt he exhaust) and the crew, while of "European decent" have maroon berets...

My guess is that these are Indian T-90S'

But that is only a guess...

Hey Jacques,

Had that one for some time, sorry - don't rem. Got it of a russian lang. website so I could not read the caption of the photo (and was to lazy to Babble Fish it).

Don't think it's Indian "Burroska" - (sp.) or whatever they call it. Crew looks very Anglo - almost Nordic (Finland maybe?).

Here's one in the mustard - yellow camo.

Hey guys,

Well, I can confirm they are indeed Russian. I found NEO's picon the Army Recognition T-90S page. This is from the Russian Expo Arms 2002. Not sure what the Maroon Berets have to do with it, but at least we put that mystery to rest. The Cammo scheme is a factory product, not a military scheme. The military cammo has the black "blotches".

Also: T-90 in Russian Service

At this link, DOD-101, they state that the bulk of the T-90's in Russian service are in the Far East, which is the Siberian District. While I still have not seen any photos of a T-90 in such a scheme, it looks more promising.

Yeah, I saw that too. No, I think the picture colors are out of register. But you can explain that it looks grey to you so you can build it the way you want to!
