I've read in usarmymodels.com that there exists a Jumbo Sherman with a 76mm gun. Can anyone post a pic of this? I tried googling, but most of my finds were the 75mm one. Thanks!

Found the first of Brad's photos on this site, which has lots of other Shermans

http://homepage.mac.com/yeide/PhotoAlbum9.html

some of the upgunned tanks also had the coaxial MG replaced by an aircraft type .50cal M2.

How could I miss them Well, they do look like 75' when viewed as a thumbnail Oh well. Thanks a lot! I'm trying to do a kitbash model of this one. I wonder if the turret is the same as the BoB Sherman? As for the mantlet, does anyone manufacture one (aside from Tamiya's Jumbo offering)? Resin would do.

The whole turret is completely new, and is uparmoured to about twice the thickness of the original.

Blast Models have the best resin conversion.

Sorry the Jumbo turret is completely different than the T23 s. I think the only correct ones are the Blast and the Azimut ones. TWS makes one, but I think the proportions are off. The 76 gunned Jumbos are easy to spot. A regular 75 mm gunned Jumbo got rare as the war progressed - crews seemed to prefer the penetration ofthe 76 rounds compared to the low velocity 75 stuff - however, the 75 had a better HE round.

The mantlet and turret were the standard ones seen on the original Jumbo. The only thing that changed was the gun tube.

The trunnions were a perfect match for either the factory built 75mm or the field converted 76mm. It was easy enough to do the work in the field, or at least not too far back in the maintenance chain. NON of the M4A3E2's were factory built with the 76mm.

- Based on info gained researching the Camp Ripley Jumbo as seen here.

The TW conversion is not that bad. I would say that Blasts is the best, but it still has issues. Either conversion set is good enough for any but a shermaholic!

Well, no, they don't. 75's never had a thread protector on the end of the barrel.

Well we've established that now. I think he meant that in thumbnail size, the whole tank is identical save for the end of the barrel... And I guess that when viewing his collection before the pics that featured the 76mm guntube never stood out as such until the current interest in them?

Uh, yeah. And how are people to learn such things if the details aren't pointed out to them?

I'm hoping Ralph read the previous half dozen or so replys which mentioned said details?
