I attrempted to use Gunze Mr Surfacer 1000 to prime a Gundam model my son built. I did not use the Mr Color thinner (using Model Master lacquer thinner instead) airbrushed at about 20-25 psi.

When I sprayed the paint I got these little fine tendrils of paint streaming from the parts - they looked like spider webs! Has this ever happened to anyone else? Was it the thinner or too much pressure?

It cut short my "Here is how to use an airbrush" lesson with my 12 year old son.

Thanks,

Don

I noticed you haven't got an answer yet, so I'll chime in. The reason Mr. S has created spider webs is it probably wasn't thinned enough (make it very watery). When I A/B Mr. S I thin the 1000 at a ratio of 1:3. When i put Mr. S 500 through an airbrush, I thin it at a rate of 1:10 because it is soooo thick. When you airbush make sure you wipe off the tip every few minutes as Mr. S tends to build up at a greater rate than most other paints/Laquers (this has also caused spider webs from the A/B to the kit).

Hope that helps. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask, I've been using Mr. S as a primer and seam filler since it became available in Canada.

Mr. Surfacer 1000 is a very thin seam sealer/primer.
Mr. Surfacer 500 is a thicker seam sealer.

500 can be used instead of putty for filling in small seam gaps etc.

Clean up is a bit of a pain if you do not have the Mr. Thinner .

The smell- well, make sure you have ventilation, it's pretty strong
