Hello at all,

i want to build a MSSC (Medium Seal Support Craft) in 1/35 for a vietnam Diorama. itīs very difficult to find any good Information about this boat. I have the old Revell U.D.T. Boat and my Plan is to convert it into something which looks like MSSC. Did anyone have good Information about this boat, like drawings, Photos etc. I have no idea about the front cabin or details about the inside of the boat. I only have found these Information http://brownwater-navy.com/vietnam/BoatsMisc.htm. Thats not very much info so i need some help

Many thanks to all
for some help

There's some basic information in the book "The Element of Surprise" by Daryl Young. He gives the basic specs and such, types of engines, etc. I know it has a catamaran type hull (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) and was very quiet. He preferred it, personally, to the LSSC b/c it could carry more people and more weapons. It's a pretty cheap little paperback book, and is my favorite about Seal operations around 1970 in the Delta.

dragon only makes/made the LSSC, not the MSSC.

...And it's a pig of a kit... no aftermarket bits (and it's crying out for some) unless I've missed some, and fit problems all over. Great figures and weapons though...
You're more likely to find the hull you need from an r/c boat/ship vendor...

Thanks for your comments,

the LSSC from Dragon ist quite nice. Also the Pibber from Tamya is great. There are aftermarket products for it.I have two LSSCīs build and itīs a shame that there is no other vietnam boat in 1/35 or 1/32 scale on the market i know.Only these very expensive monitor from Nimmix. In Germany you have to pay over 300 bucks for it. I want to copy the U.D.T, boat with a silikon mold and then make a copy with resin to have the hull. i have to carve out the engine block and what are these big thinks at the end of the boat? http://www.warboats.org/images/jpg/StonerPics/stonermssc.jpg Fuel tanks or something like that? The U.D.T. boat is long out of Production and so i donīt want to destroy the original. Then plastic sheet must work. I have no idea of R/c boats in this scale which could work for it.. And i think it could be difficult to convert them.

This is the boat i have

and here are some Photos of the original

This company may be able to help, Micro Glass BWN Hulls. They produce fiberglass hulls for use as RC boats. They specialize in Vietnam BWN craft. Good luck.

hello Stefan,

You are very courageous to want to build a MSSC because there are so few info regarding this boat. I can only give you this link hoping that it still works. you will find some photos of the MSSC.

http://warboats.org/MST2.htm

Here are the specific MSSC Pics I could find on this site

http://warboats.org/mst2Bremmer/Stoner_ord_notes/stonerhtml/Stoner_Det_Charlie_files/Stoner_DetC_images.htm

http://warboats.org/mst2Bremmer/On_the_River.htm

I also wondered if the LCPL or higins boat could be a good basis for an MSSC but I haven't checked if the two were the same length and width. It looks as if the MSSC was wider, more like the post vietnam Mini ATC of the Marine corps.

cheers
Plavi

Thanks for the links. These are the photos Mark has send me per Mail and the only one I have found too. But itīs Interesting to build such a boat. Iīts nearly unpossible to creat a copy in 1/35 but when it looks good after the atempt i will keep an eye close I have found this one and thatīs nearly the boat from Revel i think. Itīs not an MSSC but this one was used by the seals. http://www.warboats.org/lcpl.htm

stefan

we do have the same problem..
building the mssc from plastic card isn`t that hard .
Iam building a mon-H the same way..and it going alright if a may say so
its just trail and error.

just make a proto out of hard paper ..its cheap en easy to work with
and use a 54mm figure for refence

if you any help or questions what so ever drop a PM or mail..
I do have a few books regarding the BWN, I see what I can find.

regards
chris

Hi Jason,
thanks for your Pictures and answer. You will find them in your Photo section.
If you want to post them directly here in your post you must copy the Linked Thumbnail under the Photo. Then use the (img) button above the smily icons and paste the filename. In 1/6 it must be a very big model and hard to build.

Greetings

Stefan

Big indeed! 72 inches long, 27 inches beam! delayed starting the project but the hull is now taking shape. Having trouble finding scale stern drives so might have to scratch build. I'llupdate as and when i can.
