Is it possible to kitbash the Dragon Firefly Iv turret with the hull of an Italeri M32 recovery or Italeri M4A? hull, the cast one:)
I was wondering if there where any recovery shermans with the Firefly sherman hull type?
and do I have to swap the suspension from a vss to a hvss type?
Any other pointers?
I'm not trying to make the most accurate model but I know there are a lot of Shermaholics around who could help me out here.
Another sherman question on my mind,
could I take the turret of an achilles and mate it to a sherman hull?
and use the hull of that achilles as a prime mover?
I know there was a variant of the M10 tankdestroyer build on a regular sherman hull.
Thanks a lot
Pit

1. No fireflies on the type of hull that comes in the Italeri M4A1 kit. Sorry.
2. M10 turret on Sherman? Never heard of it. There was an M36 turret on a Sherman hull (M4A3) called the M36B1, which I have a built one of in my gallery pages, but I've never heard of an Achilles turret on a Sherman. Then again, I don't own the Honicutt book.

P.S. You mentioned the Firefly Iv, but there was no designation. It was Ic or Vc. Not sure which you meant.

While there were paper designations for Firefly tanks using any Sherman chassis, the only ones we can document are those built on the basic M4 with the 56 degree hull front, the composite hull (hybrid) M4 with the cast front end, and the M4A4. All the photos thought to depict M4A1-based Fireflies have turned out on closer examination to be M4 composites.

As far as suspensions go putting a HVSS suspention on an M32 did happen mostly with the M4A3 type welded hull. Also the israelis put HVSS suspentions on all of thier M32's

Hey Guys,
It's a little bit off topic but here's a weird one for you.
It's not exactly a Sherman with an M10 turret but an M10 3 inch gun S.P. turret on a Canadian Ram chassis.
It's the 3rd picture down on this page of the RamTank.ca.

Sherman kit-bashing notes, welcome to the jungle!
1. A 17pdr turret on a late M4A1 hull would be a fantasy tank - though you wouldn't be the first person to get tricked into building one (I did).
2. You can have a turretless Sherman V ARV on the M4A4 hull, though strictly British/Canadian/Polish/Commonwealth use only. VVSS suspension too.
3. The M10-based prime mover used the hull of the petrol-engined M10A1, so you'd need to add in the engine deck and hull rear of an M4A3 to get it right.
4. The TD which used an M4 hull had the turret of an M36 on a late M4A3 hull.
