Hi everyone, I'm working on the last fase of my panzer IV L/70 (A) (later called Jagdpanzer 'zwischenlösung') from Dragon. It's been "pimped" with the aber set for this tank. This is how it looks at the moment, after a third application of pigments. one decal needs replacing (front side). I'm planning a final pinwash around details and a matt varnish layer to get rid of the glossyness. any comments or tips on further detailing is welcome.

thanks for looking

Nice build. I like the subtle weathering. May I ask what is the fabric looking material on the right rear quarter and the barrel and what is it supposed to represent?

hi, thanks for the comment. those are representing cleaning cloths - the figures i intend to add to the tank in a small diorama will be taking a break from cleaning activities. this is the kit i have purchased for that:

it might seem a bit odd when you see the tank on its own, but once the dio is done it'll seem natural. i've made them using paper handkerchiefs btw.

Looks great from what I can tell and the figures should complement it well. However, some more pics would be great.

Just to let everyone know, I am in the progress of stripping this tank of all its paint in order to restart the progress. I was unhappy with the result after an exaggerated first attempt at pigment use, and it kinda ruined the camoflage scheme and base color.
I will post process pics as soon as they are available for you to see.

here's the tank in a closed zipbag covered in oven cleaner (which loosens the paint but doesn't affect plastic nor PE)

more news will be posted when it's available.

A shame you've decided to strip the paint, things were looking good up to that point. Look forward to seeing your 'new look' Pz IV L/ 70 (A).

well i always used the best pictures if i'm honest. the tank had cought a cloud of dark blue paint from a different project and had an acute case of blue freckles

anyway i can start over, the paint has come off without any problems and i'm happy for the invention of oven cleaner some poorly glued parts came off when cleaning the tank, and i detached a few pieces so i can paint them separately this time.

after keeping this project in the closet for a while i picked it up and started with replacing some parts, aswell as updating some of the details which were skipped the first time around (guess i was a bit lazy back then hehe)

here's the first picture of the tank, which is about 99% finished. i'm just reworking one of the tools to add some PE parts, and i've kept the side panels separated for painting purposes.

Very nice build there.

If you don't mind me making a suggestion: most of the jagdpanzer IV /70(A) had a hard-edged three-color scheme, as opposed to the wavy softedged scheme you originally had. Might want to do some research on this (since I could be very, very wrong .....wouldn't be the first time) because late-war German armor was painted at the factory. Mid-war many were painted at the unit level but not late in the war when this vehicle was manufactured.

Just a thought...it is your model and a darned nice one whatever you decide.

Hi Danny, and thanks for the headsup. i've been discouraged really to look any further for information on this tank, since i have found it very hard to come up with anything much. I went for the paint scheme which was suggested in the construction manual; it shows a soft edge camo pattern in either two or three tones, so i went for that. the boxart showed a similar scheme:

when i found these pictures later on missing lynx i considered the paint scheme to be correct;

just now i found this model; it's a rather large picture but it shows hard edge cammo.. do you suggest this is a better paint scheme for this type of tank?

moving on, construction is finished for this tank. I sprayed a layer of primer on the thing, which i'll let cure for a few days. this weekend i'll look for paints so i can start the cammo scheme

Hi everyone,

i've just finished the cammo scheme on the tank. i've used maskoll, but the results are not what i had in mind. i'm thinking of just redoing the entire thing. what do you guys think?

I think it looks good. It would be a shame to redo it once again. That is my humble opinion

Thanks for sharing

I can understand what you are going through. I have personally painted, weathered, then stripped and repainted many of my models. I guess I am too picky. I wouldn't strip it again as it looks alright. Just needs some touch up painting. A little bit of tweaking. When I have to mask for a similar kind of paint job I use an adhesive putty called Holdit. I am sure the same product is available in other brands. It is sticky but not too sticky and can be easily shaped to mask any shape you want. It can also be re-used many times before it loses it's stickiness.

Steven -

You've done a lot of work with this kit, two difficult paint schemes, holy cow. I too liked the look of the first scheme, and like the second as well. I bet with a couple of washes and weathering it'll look just fine...again.

Good luck, thanks for sharing!

Cheers!

I would not repaint it. I think you have a fantastic base from wich to continue. A good wash, some chipping, and weathering should do the job. Then if you still dont like it, try again.

Looks pretty darn good to me!!! The pattern you have now is very striking and unique. I'd go with it.

BTW thanks for the EuroMilitaire photos!

There a few IV/70s to picked out from the photos on this page

http://www.panzernet.net/panzernet/stranky/galerie/stihace/galeriejgdpanzer4.htm

Camouflage is very hard to discern on all except #42, which looks like it has a sprayed late war scheme which isn't 'Ambush'

Perhaps you could build the one in photo #10 which is being used as a washing line

You know what Steven, you've now painted it twice and it looks cool with this camo scheme. No model is 100% accurate so get on to finishing this one and move onto the next or you'll just get frustrated. It will look plenty good on the shelf. Its definitely better to learn and use new skills on consecutive models rather then trying over and over on the same one

hi everyone,

this tank has been in my clauset too long, but i've been waiting to work on this until after i had my new airbrush. this is the first master class airbrush i bought, a harder & steenbeck evolution silverline, and i have to say, it's a new world opening up to me. if i had known the difference i wouldn't even have bought that revell about two years ago.

anyway, i've redone the camouflage, i like it way better now, might touch up the brown colour but in the end i think i'll work with this one. i'm still getting used to this airbrush though, as you might notice there are some stripes here and there

thoughts are welcome.
