hi
when you say $400k, i take it you mean 400 thousand dollars. if so times
that by 500 would be 200 million dollars surely. not 30 milion dollars. Or
have i missed something. either way if it saves 1 life its worth it

DJ, Waiting for money while while the guys need them ASAP! Sad! Dan (also a former Tanker)Dan-- as I understand it, at a cost of some $400K per tank, they are doing the installation as we speak. I would spit ball that we probably have a 1000 tanks in the inventory. So, the priority would go to those guys in Iraq and Afghanistan then pyramid down to other units.
I am guessing here.

Blah, $30M, $200M, whats the difference? Pocket change really. Still not too bad since each Abrams is what, $1M a piece?

The wheel turns, the M551A1s I crewed had chicken shields on the TCs hatch(1977) and in Nam we had gun trucks. Well now its 2007 and we are putting Chicken shields on the TCs hatch and using gun trucks. If only they had them there to start. As a former driver and TC the rear view camera is about time. Backing a tank under fire has to be a b*tch.
Also I believe M1A2s run over $5million each. Mega Factories on History or Discovery channel detailed the rebuild factory at Lima OH, amazing!

At $400,000 per upgrade you could refit 500 Abrams for the cost of one F22 Raptor @ 200 million each.
