Ciao all,
I have finished the small vignette of the outstanding DML "Fallen Comrades, Aachen 1944." As usual, I was cheap on the groundwork; using things that I found around the house. The figures were well detailed and worth the money. I appreciated all the comments, and I will incorporate them into my next venture. I hope you like and comments are always welcome (I have a thick skin!) Thanks for looking

Ciao for now

Gday Rob
Nice little scene you have produced here!
I have the set but only the gods know why as I don't really build the Germany folk... That said, they did look sharp!
For 'around the house' groundwork it looks a treat mate, and as for the figures, well I know OD etc. but are the uniforms a little too green? And maybe the shadows ar e a ittle too contrasting.
I love the cammo on the rifleman though
Does the fallen have a wound? Would add to the scene me reckons, even if only a small one. (Unless it's hypertension, of course )
Good stuff

Ciao Bradley J,
Thanks for the comments. They do build into a great set. I was originally going to do the scene as depicted on the box, but the wall would have prohibited a 360 display. You are right about the green. I like to claim "artistic license," but in this instance I didn't have feldgrau to do the uniforms (Duh!) The natural sunlight afforded us in the Florida panhandle is none too flattering on the figures, either. Lastly, my ability to take photos is pretty bad. About the wound, I have seen wounds that produced little or not blood, especially a small shrapnel wound entering clean and exiting clean (as is this instance.) Plus, it leaves the dio more "viewer friendly." Again, thanks for the comments.

"Attempt"??? Id say you conveyed the scene quite successfully. Youve got your wounded solier, someone helping him waiting for the medic, and another covering everyone. The groundwork looks nice, and the figures are painted well. Id say you did everything right. Looks good to me!

Ciao Gary,
Hey, thanks for the compliment. Great figures really help, too! This was really a nice set and I enjoyed painting them. With the talent around here, I have to be humble, though. I mean there are some guys (and gals) that have some serious skills when it comes to painting. I appreciate it.

Nice work- i do agree that the uniforms are a little too green- but that could be the picture and artistic liscence- the camo on the one soldier's amazing.

To me the wounded man appears to have sprained his ankle or broken his leg by tripping over the small log between the medic and the wounded man.
good work on this "attempt"

Your figure painting is coming along nicely, Rob. I also like the general composition and the ground work.

Looking forward to seeing some more of your work.

Hi Rob. Excellent little scene. I built those same 4 figures some years ago, and Id agree, they are some of Dragons best. Great poses to start with, but they go together well and do make a great stand alone without anything else. Theres nothing wrong with doing it on the cheap ... in fact some of the best work Ive ever seen has been done the same way ... throwing lots of money doesnt automatically make for a better model.
The highlights for me, apart from the great figures, is the splinter pattern on the guarding soldier .... run out and get some fallscharmjägers for your next project ... you got this one down to perfection
And as already mentioned the thing that Id change is the green colour ... it would have been OK on one figure, but it appears to be the same green on all figures, on all types of uniform, great coat, etc. Having the right feldgrau colour is not necessary, just add in different greys to the base colour for some variation and not have trousers and jacket the same colour on the same figure. If you take this to your next project, you´re onto a winner!!
Has this set been released as a premium set, or have you just used Gen II personal gear??

Ciao All,
Again thanks for the positive feedback and the constructive criticism. That's what I like about this site. Lots of knowledge and helpful advice.
tracklink2 - thanks for the comments, and yes, he could have hurt himself on the log. Hey, bullets aren't the only danger in combat, right?
Hisham - thanks for the compliment. I am currently working on the Gran Sasso Raid with DML figures.
Frank - Thanks for the nod. Yeah, they are a nice set. And yes, I am cheap. That's why I try to work with older kits. More for the money, in my opinion. Glad you all liked the splinter pattern. It takes me forever, but it's worth it for comments like you all give me. You are very observant, Detective Frank! Yes, I used 2nd Gen equipment for them. Nice catch.
Finally, you have almost more awards than it took me 20 years in the Navy to earn. Dang!
Again, thanks for the compliments. It keeps me going.
Ciao for now

The figures would benefit with a coat of clear flat. We often focus on color alone, but reflectivity says a lot about what we're looking at. While some silks and synthetics are glossy or semi-gloss, the nubby woolens of WW2 military uniforms look dead flat in real life, and some of the figures have a bit of shine. It's okay if some metal items have a little shine--some paint batches weren't matte despite regulations. Leather items might also have a very little shine, though they would lose most of that on campaign.

Ciao Gerald,
You are absolutely right. The last thing that I do (except on this noticeable instance) is to give it a good dull coat. Yes, the shiny portions of the paint is quite obvious in the photos. More so than I would have hoped. Thanks for the comment.
Ciao for now
