I am trying to figure out how the sheave on the right hand side of the recovery vehicle was actually used?
This is the sheave fitted on or about the drive sprocket,
So far I have not been able to find anything on the net, so any info on use and application will be appreciated.

You mean the lifting drum? It's used to lift and lower the A-frame.
There is a small lifting cable, it can be fitted on two lifting connections on the "lifting arm" of the A-Frame, there is a lifting connection and a lowering connection.
You should get a copy or extract of the TM, I have the Military Vehicle Workshop Series MV-22 "M32 Tank Recovery Vehicle", there might be a reference CD-Rom around.
Cheers,
Christophe

Short course. The vehicle is pulled into position a cable is connected to the front right drive sprocket and one of the ears on the boom. The ears would determine high, medium or low position and the vehicle pulls forward lifting the boom, the steel cable in the back holds it up. Disconnect the cable and the vehicle could be driven with the boom up to move an item.
