Thanks for the encouraging words guys!
I managed to make some interior-parts today and now I realize how handy it is to save al those tiny/useless spare parts from other kits. I even used a KV shock absorber stopper (or whatever it is) :S:S
I will shoot some photos when the interior is done.

Hi guys!
Just a quick update. The cockpit interior parts are done and are ready for painting. The cockpit and launcher arm exterior are still very basic and needs some further detailing, like bolts, wiring and other small details.
Comments are as always appreciated
Cheers!

Thanks for the nice comment Chris!
It may seem very difficult (oke, not very easy either) but I'm sure anybody could achieve this. There are just a few things you need to keep in mind:
-Do not expect that everything will fit the first time. It is a try and error process.
-Make sure you have enough references to work from.
-Be creative and accept that 100% accuracy is not possible to achieve.
-Invest in quality tools! They are your third hands.
-Take time to figure out how to tackle a difficult shape or piece.
-When you have a wide range of i.e. evergreen it will be a lot easier to construct different parts.
But most important of all. Don't raise the bar too high for yourself! It is an ever-going learning process and it just takes time to develop yourself.
Cheers!

Hi guys!
My progress is not so fast unfortunately but I do my best. I added some exterior details on the cockpit and I made the Launcher arms. I made them first from brass but I was wrong in my measurements so it didn't fit properly. Long live the dust bin,....
Anyway, I think I'm done for about 60%. The only large parts I need to tackle are the missile boxes. The ones provided by Skiff are
Above picture is a bit blurry, no idea why, for a better view:

I finally found the inspiration last week to continue with the Strela and this weekend I started with the cockpit. It is still a basic structure because my progress with scratchbuilding is really slow.
This is exactly where my build has stalled.
Were you able to find any reference pictures showing even the broad outlines of the interior of the operators station?
I want to add the interior here, but am not a huge fan of 'imagineering' the bits. It paralyzes me sometimes, but that's how I like to build.

Hi Mike,
I can send you some interior pictures if you want. It was a kind of a surprise to me to do an interior because I initially thought that there would be some kind of cover on the cockpit, I was wrong,....
What is the status of your progress?

Hi Jurjen,
Great build. The ammount of scratching you do I sometimes wonder why you buy any kits!
Have you thought about adding the flotaion pods along the sides?

The middle pic shows what I mean but it's a little grainy.

Jurjen,
I built up the hull, added Eduard details. Built the launcher rails, keeping the cruddy kit parts and added aftermarket wheels and track, but stalled on the operators compartment. I was going to add the old DML Soviet tank troops driver torso, but even that does not quite fill the space.
the email is [email protected]
many thanks.

Small change of plans! The Strela will be in transport mode because that way I can put it on the MAZ transporter (it will also save me hours of detailing because I can put a transport carpet on the launcher arry, but I will not totally cover the missile boxes)

outstanding scratchbuilding work! Im impressed and now I want to go get this kit as a companion to my SA6.
great work on soldering. I rencently picked up a resistance (cold) soldering unit and it is great for doing stuff like this.
Awesome job!!

Hi Andy!
At the moment I'm very busy with the MT-LB and I'm sorry for all the guys who watched this thread with much interest, I decided to cancel my Strela build.
You might ask, why??
Well, I brought the Strela to a show last year and during the trip back, the model became really damaged and I couldn't find the encouragement anymore to continue with the project..
But!..... Instead of the Strela launcher I decided to put an 30mm canon on it.
Still pretty cool right? I used the 30mm offering that comes with the Zvezda BTR-80A kit.
I will make a few pics of the current state this afternoon.

Just discovered this excellent build up and was wondering if there has been any more forward progress?I bought one thinking it had a ZU 25-2 on the back deck but instead it has the gun that you scratched so I am all eyes seeing what you made your into a really fine model.
Happy New Year!
