I’m sure that by now all our Stryker’s have been outfitted with the additional armor kit, but early on in the invasion were there ever vehicles in Afghanistan without it? Or was the same S.O.P. instituted or Afghan bound vehicles as way put into affect for Stryker’s being sent to Iraq – i.e. they are not allowed in the country without Slat armor?

Sorry I don't have that specific answer on your question, but I do know that the Stryker was not used in the initial invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. The first Strykers were not deployed to Iraq until October of 2003, 7 months after the conflict started.

The only thing Ive seen referance pictures of even close to the Stryker was the LAV3 in Afghanistan used by Canadian forces. There are some good videos of the Canadian LAV3 in action on Youtube.com. Unfortunately, I think our Strykers without the slat armor will be relegated to depict training vehicles on US shores. To the best of my research, all the strykers in Iraq currently and have always had the slat armor. I know, kind of disheartening for historical accuracy, isnt it?

Thanks for the responses. I had no idea the Stryker wasn’t being used in Afghanistan. I am a like disheartened. AFV has their great kit coming out, but I don’t have anywhere close to the modeling skill necessary to even attempt scratch building the slat armor.

Oh well, I have a feeling a lot of us will be building “state side” training vehicles then

Since Trumpeter's release slat armor has been a hot topic. If you want, do a search for Strykers or slat armor within this site and you'll find some interesting things. I know at least two guys are working on scratching slat armor. At least one is using a jig to minimize all the work. Here is one of them. https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/98775&page=1

Two more things:
As a shameless plug, I am the campaign leader of Wheels and Tires All the Way, a group build consisting of members making transport vehicles, and if you are building a stryker, we'd love for you to participate. Start date is June 1st. Check out: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Campaigns&file=index&req=showcontent&id=195

Second and most importantly, welcome to Armorama! Little late I know, but what does that matter?

While there are no Strykers in Afghanistan there are however Canadian LAVIII which us YANKS call Strykers. Now that LAVIII's have this beautiful 25mm Turret mounted on it bringing a little more firepower into play than the little .50 or 40 mm grenade launcher.
