Hi all
Has been a halfarsed documentation of the building of my sherman in the 'contructive feedback' forum.
It is quite near completion now.

There will be more work done on specific stains/grease/grime/dust/dirt later.
Have yet to make up my mind on markings (?) hence it's nekkidness in this regard...
($10 to the person who can spot what part went zinging when doing some dry brushing... )

The Commanders hatch periscope brush guard seems to be missing? Do I win $10?

Nice looking Sherman so far. You are doing a very good job of the painting. What colour is that?

Cheers

Thanks Henk. It is MMODTODTOD2, just not in that order... (modelmaster OD, Tamiya OD Tamiya OD2) Just using up some rattlecans. After the necessary accoutrements, the base colour is just that; a base.

Is it the antenna post? Besides the commander's periscope guard, thats the only other missing fixture that I could spot (unless you scratchbuilt a "comb" device that has since fallen off)

Was it a tie down on the back of the turret? Looks like there's one missing, unless none goes there.

Kit looks GREAT, by the way. Keep it up.

Looks very nice,

That wouldn't be the Dragon Sherman III with Formations M4 conversion set, now would it?

Looking forward to the follow up.

Top marks, Marc! Mark my words, this is by far the easiest way to get the most accurate M4...

I have just completed a driver's hatch spring.
It is fairly accurate, working off a reference photo, but I'll have to cleverly blend the small mount on the left into the hull, as it was an afterthought

Same with the other side, as the same mount will be visible even though the bulk of the spring will be hidden under the open hatch.

Oh, forgot to mention that this was made with the trusty old 8amp fuse wire again...

Thanks Andras...
Looks intricate (and I s'pose it is) but it is easy enough to make. As I said, if you have a good pic to work from it helps plenty.
Basically I cut an ample (4") length of 8 Amp fuse wire and wrapped it around a length of 16 Amp wire. You can keep it tight and the coils seem to fall snug next to each other. I start by 2 or 3 looser coils, then start about 10 tight ones right next to each other before ending with 2 or 3 loose coils again. (Remove the 16 Amp wire at this stage.) These looser end-loops can then be cut with the tip of a #11 blade or similar to suit, as we need a loop at each end which needs to be bent different to the main run. A hook is made for attaching to the hatch, and a U shape part for attaching to the driver's box. I recommend laying some white paper on the floor if you drop them during assembly though!
Give it a go!

Gday again
Couple more pics showing the direction I'm heading

This is the first of the stowage to be added to the glacis. It has frayed a little, but will have more stuff loaded on top so no worries there

Wanted to dirty up the rear of the Sherman showing dry dust and caked on mud spatters... The bucket will be finished in a contrasting colour. Maybe a stark white chipped paint affair? I assume they had similar, way back then thar...

This is the beginnings of the rear stowage, with a magicsculpt tarp and a scratchbuilt box. There will be a camouflage net added, as well as a couple of jerry cans and something unique, just don't know what yet...
Oh, and the rear lights will be touched up a bit as they are still wet! Going to cut out some clear plastic lenses for them and see how it looks...
Thanks for having a peep
Cheers

Hey Brad,

I lost the original thread on this build somehow, great to see the progress you've made, it's really starting to look the part!
Have to agree with Andras, that spring is crazy good, don't think my stupid fingers would ever be able to create something so good! (Will soon find out though as i'll need to make some when I build my dingo!)

Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing this one done.

James
