Hi All
I know this has been posted many times. But even after searching again and again I could not find the info I am looking for. Sorry again.

I am building the M1A1 HA Army version with Alpha Company 2nd Platoon Lead vehicle with a bumper marking A21. It is the “United Airlines Flight 93”

Question 1
I understand that it was later knocked down and replacement tank took its place. Has the new tank had the APU installed?? If yes any reference pics available ??

Question 2
Do the Army version had CITV installed?? In the concord Thunder Run book none of the tanks seems to have it installed. Or is it an upgrade that came with A2s only??

Question 3
If I want to have Desert yellow, Army with APU and CITV or MCD installed in my tank, what options are available for the markings??

Note: I have the ECHELON OIF M1A1HA (Part 2) decals available to this project.

If you still want scold me for asking a stupid question, Please do so after giving at least one or two answers

Can't help with Q1, but in reference to Q2 & 3:

2: The CITV is only fitted to M1A2's

3: If it's an M1A1, see (2) above, also, the MCD is only used on USMC M1A1's. If you are specifically wanting to do an M1A2 with CITV, I am not aware of any after-market markings for M1A2's at the present time.

Hi Phil
Thanks for the reply. So it is more or less decided that CITV and MCD stays in the box if I want Desert yellow on OIF vehicle

Was there a USMC vehicle with Desert yellow and APU installed??

Why cant I just blank it with a flange and keep a spare road wheel as it is supposed to be I think I will be doing that at the end of the day.

Here's one (from Flikr.com):

As stated above, the CITV is an M1A2-exclusive accessory. No M1A1 tanks have the CITV. To answer question 2, the Army did field at least one unit with M1A2s in the OIF invasion (the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment). That leads me to question 3: if you want a desert-colored M1A2 from OIF, the only markings I know of that are currently out there are the decals that come with the Tamiya M1A2 kit. These depict two tanks from the 3rd ACR in OIF. You should try posting in the Buy, Sell, or Trade forum (link here) on this site asking if anyone has leftover decals from the Tamiya kit. Since that kit can also be built as an M1A1, some folks out there probably have the decals you want sitting in their spare parts box. I'm currently working on the Tamiya kit, as you've seen, and would love to help you out with the decals, but I already used them on my tank (I decided to build one of the M1A2 tanks and not the A1s).

A21 was not knocked out or disabled in any way. It was a replacement tank BEFORE the war and so the bumper codes were painted out and painted to reflect its new status as A21 from 1-64 Armor. I believe the photo of the front hull provided in the instruction sheet shows this. Different color paint is evident where the old codes were painted out and the new painted over.

The Lt is also interviewed in the new book about the 3rd ID, "Takedown."

4ID also had some standard M1A2s when they entered the fight in late APR '03. They didn't take part in the initial invasion, but did see limited action shortly after, as did 3 ACR.

Sorry for my wrong assumption. It was because of the term "Replacement tank" used in references. I stand corrected.

Thank you Bob for the concise description and info.

Hi Mark, thanks for the link. Even though I have seen most of the pics before, seeing them again was sobering.

Thanks Lucas. I am building the Tamiya M1A2 kit. I have not considered the possibility and thanks for the heads up. I will check that up.

Hi Gino, thanks for the info. If I want to build the M1A2 from 3rd ACR in OIF, I need to
Scratch build the phone box at the rear right.
Can I still use the APU or I have to look for the Vapor compression instrumentation cooling unit (dont know the correct term) ??

3 ACR M1A2s were standard, non-SEP, models. They did not have the T-I phone or the VCU as used on the SEP. The standard APU is correct. The basic Tamiya M1A2 is fine for a 3 ACR M1A2 in OIF 1 straight out of the box, or some small corrections can be made per Lucas' Accurized Tamiya M1A2 WIP thread in the main Armor/AFV Forum.
