Not only is this an incredible book for modelers and tribute to Mr. Paine, it is a fascinating glimpse into his influence of the era of the hobby when it evolved from toys into serious expressions of art and history. And throughout, pure creativity!

I had multiple Monogram armour series kits by Shep paine but I spent more time dreaming to be like him than doing it! I have picked some up through eBay after many years. My happiest memories growing up.

AGREE, most EMPHATICALLY!!! I've been modelling since 1958, and in the early 1970s, it was Shep Paine who really contributed to my attaining "maturity" in plastic modelling... Mr. Paine's very readable and easy to understand "How To" articles and pamphlets showed by example and inspiration, virtually all of the techniques that can be used in plastic modelling and figure-painting. He delved into working with and scratch-building with sheet styrene plastic. He discussed "imagineering", (to use his term), by showing how modellers can use all manner of spare parts and brass "lost-wax" castings, (found within the railroad modellers' realm), plastic rods, brass and copper wiring, to create one's own forms of super-detailing. He discussed airbrushing and brush-painting techniques, and he also explained how the use of super-detailing, conversions, updating, and the use of PE and resin "corrections/improvements/ and update/backdate sets could make all the difference in the quality of any given model kit. Along with Bill Horan, Peter Blum, and many other accomplished modellers, Mr. Paine opened entirely new vistas in the realm of figure painting and display techniques. Mr. Paine was INSTRUMENTAL in bringing plastic modelling out of the "Dark Ages". For those who want to improve their armor & figure modelling skills, THIS new book, and the various OSPREY Modelling books for armor and aircraft, really SHOULD, IMO, find their way into your reference libraries!
