A few weeks ago, Tamiya announced what was, for them, a radical departure, with the release of a new range of 1/48th scale armor kits. The first signs of this new direction came in the form of a Kettenkrad in 1/48th, the Tokyo Hobby Show, served as a shop window for their future intentions....

Four kits are scheduled for release by Tamiya in the coming weeks and months. The first of these will be a 1/48th scale Schwimmwagen followed by a Tiger I.

Also scheduled for release (although significantly only the box-art was on show) is an Early Sherman and a Stug III.

Rumours are circulating, that Tamiya will be releasing around TWENTY 1/48th scale armor kits in the coming year, whether that transpires, is of course another matter. What is certain, is that Skybow the Korean company who sold their moulds to AFV CLUB a few years ago, are back - this time with a range of 1/48th scale armor kits - what a coincidence....
