One After Market item that has attracted my attention for AFV’s after turned metal barrels and engine deck grills are the lenses and taillight set from SKP Model, this especially true when it comes to the large number of soft skinned vehicles that are being released onto the market lately. In this review I will be looking at a Lenses and Taillights for the BM-21 Grad from Trumpeter.
Contents
All of the Lenses and Taillights sets I have seen from SKP Model are packaged in the same way, this consists of a single photo etched fret packaged in a Ziploc plastic bag which is mounted on a card holder. On the card holder is a sticker containing the information on the product.
Review
Right from the start I will say I am a fan of these products from SKP Model as they frequently offer not just the lenses, which I think are fantastically realistic, but they often also provide items such as photo etched windscreen wipers which is the case with this release. Another big plus of this set and the lenses and taillights generally is their affordability, all of the sets I believe are under £10 and should not be more than that even with postage factored in.
The lenses are all well placed on the photo etched elements of the product with great colour to the lenses where appropriate. I am always impressed at how SKP Model manages to achieve the clearly defined colour separation in a single piece lens. This set to my knowledge looks to replace every lens on the vehicle with accurate colour to the lenses and shape where the rear light cluster is concerned.
Another area where these products are very high scoring is the detail behind the lenses; this aspect of the sets combined with the clear coloured lenses adds an incredibly realistic finish. The only thing I would have liked to see supplied with this set are the wing mirrors as they are a difficult element to make look accurate with paint; however I suppose we can’t expect everything on a plate.
Conclusion
Another great offering from SKP Model which will enhance your model quickly and easily, another very big plus is that this products makes the painting of the model an easier task due to the fact that they can be added after the main paint work is complete and before the weathering starts. The wiper arms are a plus that will further improve the finished look of your model.
SUMMARY
Highs: A product that instantly provides the ability to have realistic and accurate lenses on your model.Lows: I would have liked to see the wing mirrors provided with this set being such a prominent feature of the model and a difficult feature to make look realistic.Verdict: A great addition for your model and one I highly recommend.

I like these lens sets quite a bit- bought them for my Meng T-90A, and I wouldn't have heard about them if not for this site, but I'm not sure how useful a review is that just looks at the things on the fret. Is it really a review if they're not applied to the kit itself?
I agree with you, but I do not have the model and I get these items on a regular basis. I do offer them up every so often if for no othe reason than a fresh set of eyes, I also request that they are used on the model and that is why I ask for members who have the model to apply for them. SO yes I would love to have the time to build a model and show them on the model for a review, but the review would take too long to go live and the providing company would not be happy with the time frame.
Fair enough. I'm a ways off from the point where I will attach my lenses to the T-90 as I'm waiting until after painting but I can post some pics when the time comes.
