Armor35 is a Russian based online modelling store since 2012 offering a wide variety of products to our friends in Russia and around the world. Recently Armor35 has branched out into offering a line of products, “Project Armor35”, including kits and accessories in 1/35th scale geared towards Railway Transport and the Second World War from resin and wood and most recently a line of 1/35th scale resin figures.
The Soviet Officer of WWII – ARM35118 figure is one of the latest releases of cast resin figures from Armor35. This figure is comes in the open-ending small box with a completed rendition of the figure on the front of the package.
There is two pieces that make up the Soviet Officer of WWII; fully molded legs, body and head and left arm and the right arm with hand holding a cigarette is separate. The figure is cast in a grey colored resin and all of the parts sealed in Ziploc type packages.
All of the parts of this figure kit are cast extremely well. There is no visible flash or seam lines to be seen with the exception of one tiny mold seam on the inside back of the legs. There are no visible air bubbles anywhere on the casting.
Construction
As the third time actually constructing figures from Armor35, I am beginning to feel like an old-hand at the construction now. Armor35 has made the choice of limiting the construction process to their line of figures, so the “old-hand” does not really apply since the construction goes quickly. This is the first time in three figures that the matching of the parts, the arm right arm to the body, did not match up flawlessly. There is a small seam present after attaching but certainly nothing worth writing home about. A quick filling with Mr. Surfacer and some clean-up with a cotton swab and alcohol is all that was needed.
Just one note on the separate arm section; in the hand there is a cigarette that is added to the mold process. This cigarette is very delicate, as you can imagine in this scale, and most likely snapped off in the packaging process…at least in the case of the figure I received for this review. I found the wayward part in the bag the part was supplied in and was easily attached using super glue.
Conclusion
After having a chance to have a good look at the Soviet Officer of WWII figure as well as bringing the two parts together I do feel that this figure is another fine offering from Armor35. This is a cleanly cast figure with little to no flash or mold seams that need tending to. The details are indicative of the period officer that the figure was designed to depict. I really like the somewhat relaxed pose of the officer having a smoke and possibly looking out into the troops as they ready themselves for battle.
I will bring up some notable thoughts originally brought up in my previous reviews of the Armor35 figures. I do feel that at least the heads of these figures should be cast separate. This would give the builder the option of posing the heads to looking in various directions or even replace the heads with aftermarket commercial offering if so desired and allow the builder to also paint the head separately form the body. My second thought is the possible adding of an extra arm to create a different posing.
Aside from my “thoughts” of suggestion this figure is great little piece with plenty of fine details and will fit right into a period diorama or vignette or as a standalone figure rather well. The added value of the decent pricing and the quality of the Armor35 Soviet Officer of WWII make these figures a solid purchase for anyone interested in the subject matter at hand.
SUMMARY
Highs: A very well cast resin figure, nice subject at a great price!Lows: The lack of a separate head casting to allow for painting and posing purposes.Verdict: I nicely detailed cast resin figure offered at a great price.
