Stug III in Miniature

by: Michael Wawrow [ BILLYBISHOP ]

With my recent interest in building a Stug III G (late version) I thought I might reference this first book in a series of 2 (Panzer IV in Miniature their latest release). Though full of pictures, most of them are black and white shots of a variety of Stug models and versions. I found the black and white shots to be of little help to me, especially when modeler Stansislaw Jablonski describes his painting technique. It is hard to make out the camo and shading in the black and white shots. Colour photographs would have been more help here.

The colour photos of finished kits were much better in showing the author's modeling technique but the modeling tips in the book were too generic. The small amount of black and white reference photos seemed like an afterthought to me, maybe these were extras left over from their "Photosniper Series" on Stugs.

There is a published list of aftermarket parts at the time of printing that could be helpful to the modeler who is not able to access the Internet. A bonus is a black and white decal sheet of all the vehicles in the color plates in both 1/35th and 1/72nd scales. The artwork and plates are decent enough with good examples of camo and schemes of different Stugs.

All in all I found this book average at most things but not concentrated enough on any one thing. At the writing of this review (11/22/02) the book is selling for 10.00 (on sale) at the North American Distributor's Site (see link).

A Polish and English text publication especially for modellers with a set of decals. Soft cover, small format ,56 pages, 57 BW photos and 19 pages in color published 2001.
