US Army Patches Set 1
US Army, Corps, and Special Service Patches: 6th Army, 5th & 7th Corps and Special Service

introduction

One of the more amazing developments in figure modeling has been the expanding range of decals for uniform patches, insignia, etc. It makes no sense to spend upwards of $15-$20 for a resin figure and then have no rank markings or unit badges showing. These aren't items even a master modeler can realistically hand paint, so the proliferation of decals and dry transfers in this category is a welcome development.

Among the leaders in the field are Archer Fine Transfers. They have a large and growing line of uniform markings, and have now introduced two sets of US Army Corp patches, one of which is reviewed here; a review of the second set will follow.

Contents

Inside the typical Archer Fine Transfers glassine is a small sheet of each of four different badges:

  • 6th Army
  • 5th Corps
  • 7th Corps
  • Special Service uniform patches

In addition there are instructions and a small sheet of Wet Media Paper.

review

One of the things that makes Archer’s products stand out is the excellence of their production values. These patches are tiny versions of the real thing, and they add an element of authenticity to any 1/35th figure build.

While some modelers are intimidated by dry transfers, Archer make using their products easy. Whether it's their online instructional tutorials, their unquestioning replacement policy for the life of the product, or the clever use of Wet Media Paper, no one should have any reluctance to add these patches to their builds.

In fact, Archer actually recommend using the Wet Media Paper instead of applying the patches directly to the figure. The modeler simply rubs the patch onto the WMP, then dips that in water, sliding the patch onto the figure in the same way as with waterslide decals.

conclusion

The precise printing, ease of use and excellent color makes these corps and army patches a must-have for US figure builders.
