introduction

Plusmodel, the company that brings us all sorts of weird & wonderful items to add to our dioramas and vehicles, has released set #430 Acid Containers. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any reference to these “acid containers” online, although using a simple metal cage & straw to protect glass bottles can be considered quite common.

the set

The five piece set arrives bubble wrapped in a card box. No assembly is required, and no decals to be applied, so no instructions included, nor needed. A color photo on the box serves as a painting guide. The only prep needed will be to remove the pour plug on the bottom, either prior or after painting. Personally, I used the pour plug as a handle while painting.

Casting is very well done in terms of straw detail and clarity of the jug itself. There is a mismatched mold line on one side which I would consider the back, nothing that takes away from the finished product. From bottom to top of cork measures approximately 1”. These are molded solid, so there are a few ways to handle the color of the contents of the glass jug:

Leaving it alone takes on a golden glow from the straw color.

Use a transparent paint on the top.

After cutting off the pour plug, polish sand the base and paint that with transparent or solid color paint. This is what I tried using transparent red to simulate wine.

Drill a recess in the base, about 3/8” diameter, and paint to simulate a partially filled jug.

conclusion

These are pretty cool, and a quick & easy addition to many scenes depending on what liquid they are holding. Mold quality is very good, as usual from Plusmodel.
