PlusModel from the Czech Republic supplies us with many interesting accessories, including bits and pieces for dioramas too. One of their latest offering is the „Achtung minen” („Attention mine”) set, this time scaled down to 1/48, which is a great idea as lately we have seen a growing number of armor kits of this scale (mostly WW2).
The set
This laser cut/engraved wooden set comes in a simple flat plastic and card sleeve with three different parts: two kinds of signs (one made up from three, the other made up from two boards and the text also differs) and the same posts for all of them. In total we get 56 signs – 28 of each design.
The signs are approximately 0.4mm thick, that would be 19.2mm in real life which seems a bit too much for me, the posts are 1mm x 0.7mm (48mm x 33mm) with a maximum height of 16mm (768mm if scaled up to real life).
As all this is made of wood it is very easy to work with, cutting them is no problem at all and you can easily modify them if needed, separating the planks is highly advised as otherwise the back of the signs would look totally flat.
The engraving leaves the edges a bit burnt so it should be removed/covered but that can't be an issue as some weathering is needed anyway unless you are representing brand new signs. As for the skull and the text I think the engraving should be darker for more visibility (if that is possible with the manufacturing method), representing black/dark paint, although white was also used. Either way, with this light engraving painting the text and the skull is advised.
conclusion
All in all this is a useful little detail set in 1/48 from PlusModel, a nice addition to any diorama, and you will have plenty of signs if you buy this.
SUMMARY
Highs: Easy to build.Lows: Etching color is too light.Verdict: A nice addition to any diorama – if the setting needs it.
