introduction
Soviet Soldier and Woman WWII, item
35137, is one of several new figure sets by
Armor35.
in the box
Armor35 packs these two figures in an end-opening box, The model parts are contained in self-locking plastic packs. "Box art" is a photo of the assembled and painted set glued to the box.
Inside are nine light gray resin pieces. The woman consists of the main body with separate arms. The soldier is assembled with six pieces:
Body
Left arm with rifle
Right arm holding a cup
Helmet
flyaga Canteen
Entrenching tool handle
Each figure is sculpted by Anishchenko Dmitriy. Molding is crisp with no flash, sink marks nor air cavities. The surface is clean and smooth. I did notice a burr of excess resin on the knuckle of a hand.
Each part is attached to a pour block except for the rifle arm. Armor35 apparently sculpts their subjects, joins the pieces, then removed the pieces before making the mold. This leaves impressions in the body which means that parts will attach in a definite way.
I am dubious about molding the rifle and arm as a single piece but the casting looks acceptable.
detail
Seams and stitching show up well. Much detail was worked into the uniform and clothing. The faces have defined features.
Woman
She has dainty hands to hold the pitcher and pat the soldier. If you like painting hair then you may not like her because she wears a headscarf. The rest of her clothes looks like common dress for women I have seen in Barbarossa photos. No doubt her outfit is similar to many rural women of the era in both eastern and western Europe. The only curious part of her outfit is her footwear. She looks like she wears boots similar to the soldier.
Soldier
His uniform is the M35
Gymnasterka cotton soviet tunic and the breech-style pants with tall boots. Plenty of seams and buttons. A Mosin Nagant M1891/30 rifle is slung over his left shoulder and he drinks from a
chashka aluminum cup. A field cap covers his head.
Separately cast are the SSh-40 steel helmet, entrenching tool handle, and his canteen. It is modeled with the fabric cover on so, who knows, perhaps it is the M1941 glass canteen?
Molded onto the body are the belts and ammunition pouches, plus the bed roll.
This is a veteran soldier and he wears two medals.
fit
Assembly is easy. Most of the parts fit without need for filler. I see one arm on the woman that has a gap at the underarm.
instructions and painting guidance
None. Refer to the box art.
conclusion
Sets like this are growing in popularity as modelers want subjects for dioramas and vignettes beyond combat scenes. Why not - scenes like this have played out across millennia and conflicts.
Casting is high-quality. I only found a flaw on a knuckle. Armor35 added a great deal of detail to the uniform and kit. Fit is very good, too, and only found one part that attached with a gap. (Is it because or notwithstanding me?)
Armor35 has created a fine set for modelers of The Great Patriotic War. The woman can not doubt be used in many other scenes, which gives this set some versatility.
