Introduction:
Along with producing number of different helmet sets in 1/35 scale, Live Resin also released several head sets designed to fit these helmets. This particular review covers their Head with Balaclavas for Ops Core and Airframe Helmet with/without Headsets with Team Wendy X-Nape (LRE-35204). Review:
The set is packed in a zip-lock bag safely secured between firm cardboard backings. The box art on the front shows all the heads included in the set, while the box art on the back displays the heads in more detail and depicts them with Ops Core and Airframe helmets available separately from Live Resin.
The set consists of 5 heads in 1/35 scale. The grey resin looks really good and upon closer inspection I found no imperfections in the cast; even the tiniest and most delicate details are nicely delivered in scale. The heads feature small protrusions on the top which serve as "anchoring points" for helmets. I tried fitting Live Resin’s Ops Core and Airframe helmets to the heads and found the whole process extremely easy: the protrusion on the head connects nicely to inside of the helmet. The heads also feature slightly longer necks than usual which are bound to come in handy when fitting the head to the torso, allowing a good connection at almost any angle.
The heads in this set feature balaclavas and ESS Crossbow goggles. Although the set includes 5 heads, only 4 are different with the slight variations including the position of balaclava, style of helmet retention system and inclusion of Peltor Comtac III headset. I added photos of each of the 4 different heads to this review so the modelers can see all the aforementioned variations for themselves. As for the helmet suspension system, the heads are sculpted with either Ops-Core ACH Head-Loc Retention System X-Nape or Team Wendy CAM-FIT Retention System. The Head-Loc improves safety, comfort and stability of helmet chinstraps, with custom adjustment tabs allowing the helmet to be attuned while wearing it, without any hanging loose ends. The X-Nape self-adjusts to the back of the skull, resulting in a simple, ultra-clean, low-profile system. Team Wendy CAM-FIT is a chinstrap featuring dial-adjustible fit compatible with a wide variety of helmet liner systems as well as most common ballistic shell styles. The straps and chin-cup have been newly designed for a close, comfortable fit to the wearer’s face with the cam-lock adjustment system resulting in no loose ends or hanging straps. In short, these retention systems are compatible with Ops-Core FAST and Airframe helmets available separately from Live Resin catalogue.
One more thing that has to be mentioned in this kind of a review is the size comparison between 1/35 scale Live Resin heads and offerings from other resin figure manufacturers. I measured up Live Resin heads to those from Evolution Miniatures, Bravo6, Minisoldiers, NATO in Miniatures, Hobby Fan and Airborne Miniatures, finding a really good size match to all of those figures.
Conclusion:
Last batch of releases from Live Resin included number of different helmet sets as well as the heads designed to fit these helmets. Head with Balaclavas for Ops Core and Airframe Helmet with/without Headsets with Team Wendy X-Nape (LRE-35204) features 5 heads in 1/35 scale, with 4 of those slightly different regarding the position of balaclava, headset or helmet suspension system. The heads are perfectly cast and feature lots of details. By combining different helmets and helmet accessories, which are available separately from Live Resin, modelers have an option of making almost any headgear setup they desire.
