As most of you will know I am a big fan of the ‘In Detail Fast Track’ series of books from Tankograd Publishing. These titles are aimed at the modeller who wants to get the details on their models just so, but does not need to know all of the ins and outs of the vehicle beyond the detail. Another big plus is the affordability aspect with each title coming in at €11.95 and so cheap enough for most to afford. This time around Tankograd Publishing has released five new titles in the ‘In Detail Fast Track’ series, these cover the Warrior FV510 TES (H), Dingo 2 GE A3.3 PatSi, Camouflage – Markings – Soldiers Grantiger Lowe, Panzerhaubitze 2000 A1/A2 and Keiler.
Review
This release in the ‘In Detail Fast Track’ series of books from Tankograd Publishing is the first of the titles that has been published as a duel language offering, the text on the left of the page is in German and the right side in English. This title consists of 40 pages printed on a good quality glossy paper with a card cover. The text is complete over three pages and offers a short introduction followed by text covering specific aspects of the vehicle. It is worth noting that this release from Tankograd Publishing is a timely offering with Revell of Germany having recently released a model of this very vehicle.
The photographic portion of the book starts with a good general walk around of the whole vehicle. The picture quality is of a very high standard and good definition. The vehicle photographed has a very clean look about it which is a bit of a double edged sword, on one hand it does make the details stand out cleanly, but on the other hand it will not help with weathering a model.
The next section of photographs looks at specific details on the body of the Dingo 2 GE A3.3 PatSi. One aspect I like about these titles is that while the text proper is limited, each of the photographs has a very good text caption to accommodate them and in this case is supplied in duel languages. The details are covered in a logical progression covering the front, rear and then sides. The details covered will help the modeller add those touches to a model that lifts it beyond the average.
The next section covered is the roof of the vehicle, this is perhaps the area that most will find difficult to cover any other way and that makes this title a valuable reference to all. The remote weapons station on the roof gets special coverage as you would expect, in this case it is the FLW 200 – 12.7mm MG and alternate 40mm AGL that are covered in great detail from all angles.
One question which often raises its head is when modellers start painting the underside of the model , well this title has that covered with images from the front axle to the rear and the rear axle to the front. The title closes with an excellent series of photographs showing the interior of the vehicle from both a generic and specific angle. I believe that this series of photographs covers the interior very thoroughly.
Conclusion
This title in the ‘In Detail Fast Track’ series of books from Tankograd Publishing has really come along at an ideal time with the model release by Revell of Germany. The title covers all of the essentials for the modeller despite the limited number of pages. Switching to a duel language format can only increase its appeal; however I am glad to see that this approach has not affected the number of pages dedicated to the photographic content.
