Some time ago D Day Miniatures released a two figure set of a pair of Royal Navy personnel. The set depicts two figures an RN Officer and a RN Dispatch Rider. This is an unusual set in the respect that the Dispatch Rider is female.
The figures were sculpted and painted by P Krasicki.
The Set
The set comes in a blue cardboard box with the manufacturers details on the front and a colour picture of the two completed and built figures. Each figure is contained within a small plastic zip-loc bag.
Royal Navy Officer
The figure depicts a standing RN officer and consists of 4 parts. The body is cast as a whole with separate arms and head. The figure is dressed in RN tunic and trousers, the tunic being covered with a leather waistcoat. Under the tunic can be seen the collar and cuffs of a polo neck jumper. Around the waist the officer wears a pistol holster and belt. To complete the figure footwear in the form of Wellington Boots is worn with socks folded over the tops of the boots.
The figure is cast in a light grey resin and the detail on the uniform looks great. Around the waist the figure wears a 38 pattern belt and pistol holster and small ammunition pouch. Nice belt buckles are evident on the front. The belt is without the rear buckles, this is not unusual. Nice folds and creases on the uniform mean this figure should paint up well.
The head is that of a young officer complete with cap, the arms show the great details on the cuffs. The figure stands about 42mm in height from heel to shoulder and has good overall body proportions.
Dispatch Rider
The figure is designed to be seated on a motor bike and depicts a female Royal Navy Dispatch Rider, again made up of 4 parts. The body as a single casting, separate right arm, left hand and head. The figure is dressed in a duffel coat with hood, dispatch riders trousers and leather leggings and boots. Running right to left is the shoulder strap of a large dispatch bag which hangs on the left hand side.
The figure is cast in a light grey resin, the detail on the uniform looks excellent and there is good detail on the shoulder bag.
The right arm is separate and has nice hand and cuff detail. There is a separate left hand to add to the figure. The head shows the face of a young woman and wears a cap with the flaps fastened under the chin and a pair of goggles on top of the cap at the font. Once again the figure has good overall body proportions.
Conclusion
Another two fine and unusual figures from D Day Miniatures. I like the female dispatch rider, as it is nice to see something new around and the RN Officer has a generic enough pose to be used in any number of settings.
Two very useful figures giving more choice to modellers. Whether as stand alone or used in a wider scene these are a welcome addition to their range.
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent casting and quality, with the addition of a female figure.Lows: None I can think of.Verdict: Highly Recommended.
