Stelios Demiras added 16th Scale Model Handbook to the Figure Modelling Series of
MrBlack Publications. Old and new authors, award winning and boxart models in step-by-step articles, commercial color codes or personal recipes, high quality photos mostly in numeric order,explanatory texts and lately added sculpting articles made the series a worthy reference for all modelers. Never compromised on printing quality, they maintain their high standard on this book too. The book is in the standard format as the former books - A4 size, matt laminated cover and 52 pages.
inside the book
The book includes eight chapters with models from different scales and time periods. The chapters are;
How to Paint a Roman Figure Using Acrylic and Oil Colors : Sergey Popovichenko makes a small convertion by damaging the shield, adding a bandage to right arm, changing the sword and paints 75 mm Pegaso Models Roman Legionary 1st Century A.D. First he describes how he made the conversion, then explains his painting steps for skin areas, armor, tunic, shield and finishes telling how he made the figure base. 32 step-by-step photos and 4 photos for the final product. Metal effects, damage added to the shield and base are really outstanding on this article.
How to Paint a Medieval Figure : Regular contributer of Figure Modelling Series Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth paints his award winning Pegaso Models 90 mm Knight Hospitaller, 13th Century. He explains his painting process by his recipes in his article supported with 20 photos. Nice article to paint black, white and metal tones and heraldy.
How to Sculpt a Viking Figure for Commercial Casting : One of my favorite articles on this book ; master sculptor Igor Kordyukov shares all periods of his sculptwork for The Descendant of Odin figure for Irbis Miniatures. He starts telling the materials he used and a few paragraphs to explain the steps, but 124 photos in numeric sequence and 6 for the finished figure. Absolutely a visual feast to sculpt a figure.
Painting Realistic Texture Effects for Face Skin and Other Materials : Jason Zhou paints Nutsplanet 1/10 scale Hannibal Barca bust in acrylics. Giving his color codes, he shares his painting steps for skin, metals, cloth and leather in 5 photos of painted bust. Leopard skin cape worths to notice on this piece.
Painting a WW II Large Scale Bust with Acrylics and Oils : My second favorite article on this book. Juanma Vergara paints 51 Studio 1/10 scale Otto Carius bust in Vallejo Acrylics paints and oils. After a short historical info about Carius, he explains painting the eyes in 8 photos by giving color codes for eyeballs, pupils and iris. Then he shows painting steps of skin in 16 photos and 17 photos for cap and panzer uniform with detailed text including his color recipes.
Painting a Large Scale Napoleonic Bust with Regimental Color : Another article by Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth with Stormtroopers 200 mm Ensign 28th Foot at Waterloo bust. Again a well detailed text with color codes and high quality photos. Very useful article for painting and shading yellow and red colors. 8 photos for face painting, 3 for black shako, 18 for red coatee with yellow collar and cuffs, 8 for Regimental yellow flag and 5 for the finished product.
How to Paint a Fantasy Vignette Inspired From Comics Using a Special Technique : Rhino Painting by Javier Gonzales (Arsies) is the second / painting part of his first step by step article on Figure Modelling No.15 for scratchbuilt conversion of a 75 mm spiderman figure and 100 mm Hulk figure by Knight Models. He explains his airbrush painting method with a detailed text and 16 photos.

conclusion
Once again, the book is a useful and helpful reference for all level painters and also sculptors on this issue. The price is reasonable like a monthly magazine. I really appreciate no.16 gives useful hints to paint and tone specific colors like yellow, red, white and black. Sculpting article is exceptional.
