Introduction

A recent package from Legend Productions included not just their new products, but also some of their older offerings as well. In this review I take a look at a US Dismounted Patrol Leader, a single resin figure in 1/35th scale.

Contents

This single 1/35th scale figure from Legend Productions is packaged in the usual end opening card carton favoured by Legend Productions. Inside is a single Ziploc plastic bag containing all of the parts for the figure. All of the contents in this sample have arrived safe and sound.

Review

The moulding quality of this figure is high, but a couple of issues have crept in. One of the issues I believe is due to mould damage and the other is a quality control issue, neither of these problems put me off though.

The figure is a single piece moulding with separate head and arms, the only other parts are the rifle with separate stock. I will state at this point that I am no expert when it comes to exactly which type of uniform belongs when (I have Gino for that), but it does look a good match for late in the second Iraq conflict and so I also believe ideal for the Afghanistan conflict.

I really like the detail presented here by Legend Productions, the boots have nice lace detail and definition between boot and sole. The knee pads look good as even the detail holes around the edges is present. So little of the body armour is on show that I am not even going to try and identify it. The Bergen, ammunition pouches and strapping looks good, I do like the undercut detail around the torso and the Bergen and this will be further enhanced visually when the arms are attached.

The arms of the figure will be a bit of a pig to clean up as they have an offset pour plug connection, by this I mean attached on the matting surface, care will need to be taken to ensure a good fit of the arm to the torso. The outside of the gloved hands looks good, but the palm sides of the hands looks as if the mould has been damaged resulting in a loss of all detail. I can clean these up, but as the rifle is shown in the right hand I would select an alternate placement for the rifle

The rifle is where the other issue exists, the rifle itself is sound and looks very nicely detailed, the stock on the other hand is so fine that part of it is little more than flash. I suspect that with some work and a little lateral thinking it could be recovered, but in these days of scale weapons being available from the likes of Live Resin I would take that route.

Conclusion

So we have here a high quality figure that has a couple of issues creeping in, the palms of the hands do not worry me too much as the palms face towards the body, but I would consider having a sling on the weapon and shouldering it. The issue with the stock could be overcome, but I would take an alternate route the overall composition of the figure is very good and I am impressed with the body and kit being moulded as a single piece. The issues I have raised could be easily cured with a mould check, but it has to be remembered that this is not a new offering
SUMMARY
Highs: A very nice modern figure that with careful painting could look very good.
Lows: Some issues creeping in with the moulding, but these are not insurmountable.
Verdict: I have seen this figure for sale at less than $10.00 and that price it is a no brainer.

Darren, I think you should invest in better photo and lighting equipment. The photos are pretty bad. Mario

Legend Productions modern US soldiers are all nicely detailed but M4 rifles are always too small, they look like a toy, they need to be replaced.
