When AFV Club released their Husky and with another promised from elsewhere, we all knew it would not take long for the after-market providers to tackle anything not included with the model. Well Legend Productions is the first out of the gates, at least I believe that to be the case with resin and metal parts to build the AFV Club offering as the Husky Mounted Detection System.
Contents
This offering from Legend Productions is provided in the usual end opening carton they use and it has reached me in perfect condition. The contents break down as follows;
A double sided photographic instruction sheet
65 resin parts
3 photo etched frets
2 sizes of brass rod
2 coils of brass wire
A coil of copper wire
A length of single core sleeved cable
Review
A thorough examination of the parts that make up this offering from Legend Productions leaves me with a positive impression; there parts are cleanly cast and free from any of the usual issues that can affect resin castings. One aspect I really like about resin offerings from Legend Productions is the effort that they go to in order to protect fine parts during transit on their casting blocks. One area of concern is that the photo etched frets are packed in the same Ziploc bag as the wire and brass rod, I know from previous experience that this can result in damage to the photo etched parts that is difficult to remedy.
Some time ago now I reviewed Fast Track 10 from Tankograd Publishing covering the Husky VMMD, I do not know if there are copies still available from Tankograd Publishing, but I strongly urge you to seek out this publication if you wish to tackle this product. The reason I feel you need to seek the title out is that the photographic instructions are not very easy to follow, and this is the one aspect of products from Legend Productions generally that make their products hard to use. Please don’t get me wrong the product looks to have hit all of the marks when it comes to giving the Husky a very different look, it is just the getting everything where it belongs that is hard to work out.
Checking the model parts and photographs against my reference tells me that this product will make for a very accurate model. Another aspect that I really like is that Legend Productions has gone to the trouble of providing the model so that the detector can be built deployed, folded, raised or lowered. The last area where Legend Productions could have improved the offering is to have supplied some clear lenses for the added lights.
Conclusion
I am sure that some of you reading this think that I do not like this product from Legend Productions, but that could not be further from the truth. The product is to the best of my knowledge very accurate and comparison to the book covering the Husky from Tankograd Publishing only enforces that opinion on me. What I don’t want to do with this review is make everyone feel that they can pick this up and bang out a stunning model, the modeller will need a good level of skill in the use of the various elements that make this offering. If you do have the skills and can follow the instructions then this will provide the modeller with ability to have a stunner. How long before we see the bar armour offered as well?
SUMMARY
Highs: Excellent casting and attention to detail means this offers great display possibilities.Lows: The instructions are not the easiest to follow and the lenses on the lights are not clear.Verdict: A must have for the modeller who wants a very accurate husky with the forward mine detector.

I have been building model kits since the early 70’s starting with Airfix kits of mostly aircraft, then progressing to the point I am at now building predominantly armour kits from all countries and time periods. Living in the middle of Salisbury plain since the 70’s, I have had lots of opportunitie...
Yes please give us the bar armour too, this legend set is very good as Darren say, the only thing i missing in the set are how all cables shall be... But the parts are very fine.
Hi, Roger! As Darren says, The TANKOGRAD "HUSKY" book could be a very good source of reference, and I'm sure that by obtaining this book your question regarding the "cables" would probably answer your needs, and aid you in replicating them.
THANKS to Darren, for reviewing this LEGEND HUSKY VMMD HMDS up-grade kit.
One of these is in my future...
