Introduction

The BMPT “Terminator” is a modern Russian combat support vehicle that has been designed at the end of the 20th century on the chassis of T-72 tank. Even though it did not make its way into the Russian army, it is still an attractive piece of tank design and engineering. In 1/35th scale there are two kits available for this vehicle – Meng and Zvezda with Zvezda being a rather cheaper option. With the kit being generally OK, the barrels are a weak part of it, similar to many other kits. Aber is here to rescue.

Review

The set L-15 comes in a small clear plastic bag and contains an assembly manual and barrels for 2A42 automatic cannons as well as for AG-17D grenade launcher. The turned metal parts are placed in additional clear plastic bag inside the main packaging.

There are 4 parts for the guns (2 each) and 4 for AG-17D. The gun features a barrel with an open end and correct detail as well as complex muzzle brake. The assembly is simple – just put the muzzle on the barrel. The fit is very tight and I don’t think you would need glue to hold it when painted. The muzzle brake is a masterpiece of turned metal work – it has correct detail and measures perfectly against the plans that I have from Miniarm.

The AG-17D barrel is also made of two parts. The main body of the barrel plus a little insert that goes inside it. This division was done to accurately replicate the complex shape of AG-17D barrel. Here you would have to cut the insert from metal carrier and insert inside the larger part. The fit is very tight again and I do not think one would need glue.

The installation of these upgrades into the plastic kit should go without any issue as they are made specifically for that kit and should fit it like a glove.

Conclusion

I think this is an excellent set of replacement barrels for the BMPT kit from Zvezda. It offers accurate barrels that do not require clean-up and have accurate features reproduced. I cannot comment on the fit to Meng kit and please be aware that you cannot use BMPT barrels on BMP or BMD vehicles as the length of the visible part of the barrel from the mantlet on BMPT is different.
