Gunpowder Line
The Airbrush Company Ltd sent a selection of products by Wilder Products for review. This review of the Gunpowder Line
Brown Russian Earth will demonstrate how the product can enhance a model.
According to the Wilder website, Gunpowder weathering pigment powders are:
...pigment powders that can be applied onto the model dry or with both water/enamel thinner to spread the pigments in order to obtain different effects. Gunpowder pigments can also be built up in layers to represent thick layers of mud or rust using FX-01 Fixer. These powders can also be mixed with other paints like acrylics and enamels in order to alter the tone.
Gunpowder Brown Russian Earth
This is a brown-gray weathering pigment powder. The photo of it in the white bowl was shot under a Natural Daylight-corrected lamp.
The powder is contained in an eye-catching unique square necked 50 ml bottle, more like an artists' ink jar. The attractive label adds to the aesthetics, although text on the side is so small that I can not read it without magnification.
Use
Since
Brown Russian Earth is for any finish, I tested it on an olive colored vehicle. There is no reason that it can not enhance any model subject as it looks like dust and dirt and mud seen all over the world (literally and figuratively). It closely resembles the dirt in my in-law's yard.
I used a simple soft brush to apply it. I applied it to wet and dry surfaces.
The fine pigments take to the air freely. I suggest wearing a mask to not inhale it; I don't know what it is made of and yet I am certain I don't want it in my lungs.
Results and conclusion
What do
you think? This Gunpowder Line is easy to use. In my eyes,
Brown Russian Earth dirtied up my M29 Weasel convincingly.
Bottle design is nice although I wonder if modelers, at first, will be dubious about the uncommon square bottom? Yet modelers who enjoy a product will always find room for it.
Modelers striving to create a dirty steppe effect should appreciate
Gunpowder Line Brown Russian Earth. I have no complaint about this product and recommend it.
