PE set for Tiger 1 Initial Production

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

Photo etch contents

When Dragon first released their kit of the Initial Tiger 1, a few people were very surprised that the engine grills were missing from the kit. Dragon explained this by saying they were too difficult to produce correctly, and so rather than include incorrect ones, they decided not to include them in the kit. Eduard has now corrected this by including them in this set.

The base kit for this set is so extensive that it's difficult to see where aftermarket producers of photo etch sets such as this have an 'in'. There isn't much in the set that's new, and by new I mean not included by Dragon in the original kit. Eduard offers the rear mudflaps. Photo etch ones are already offered by Dragon. So are all the tool clamps. There are new photo etch bits for the jack block however!

We then return to the front mudflaps, which dragon provides 3 different embossed pattern photo etch parts to choose from........ Eduard does too. Although, in their defense, Eduard do provide a photo etched mudflap to stick them to! We then come to those rear engine deck grills. Nicely done, but as Dragon explained, rendered in photo etch they come out a bit well........flat. Also included in the set are some bits and pieces for inside the turret, such as a bracket for an MP40 Machine Pistol, but I'm not convinced of the value of these since most of what there is cannot be seen on the finished model.

in conclusion

I'm afraid at the sort of asking price for this set, it simply cannot be considered value for money. There is very little in the set that does not already come with the base kit courtesy of dragon.
