Introduction
Legend Productions are a Korean company who specialize in 1/35th scale update conversion sets for 1/35th scale armor. They also do a range of 1/35th scale WWII figures with some very nice pieces in their current catalogue. A few months ago, they announced on their webpage, that they were releasing three 1/35th resin headsets, a subkect which immediately 'piqued' my interest as I have been working a lot on 1/35th scale figures recently, from a variety of manufacturers. No matter how good the figures are, the same frustration sets in - the quality of the heads....
The heads set...
LF0112 - German Heads Set # 2 (WWII) - contains 12, 1/35th scale resin heads on two sprues. All of the pieces are helmeted with the standard German helmet - apart from one whose helmet is the standard Fallshirmjager model.. One of the heads has the (early) SS Camoufage cover on his helmets. Three of the heads have goggles on their helmets which for me is a
SUPERB addition. With these, the possibilities suddenly multiply. Engineers, Motorcyle despatch riders and (in particular) Panzer-Grenadiers mounted in 251s are only three possibilities... Another of the heads is my personal favorite. He seems (at first glance) to be wearing a helmet which is far too big for him, looking through the optivisor, he has very young features - perfect for a
'Hitler Jugend'!
Regarding '
combatibility, I have 'dry-fitted the heads on the products of four manufacturers,
DML, Tristar, Warriors & Alpine Miniatures. The reults are very encouraging apart from the Tristar figures, where there is a tendency for the head to 'dwarf' teh body...
What the sculptor has also done (to his credit) is to give a generous quantity of 'neck' on each head. This makes fitting and varying the sit of the heads, that much easier....
The only negative note, in what is a very impressive set, comes in the following area. The pouring 'stubs' for the resin are attached to the top of the helmets. It's NOT going to make seperation from the sprue difficult, but it will require a great deal of care (and a razor-saw) in cutting them off. One of the other sets I have for review ( the bare Heads Set) has the attachment point
below the neck, making this the simplest process imaginable.
Conclusions.
A word about the price This is a superbly useful set and without demeaning the work of other manufacturers, it really does represent extraordinary value for money. I have based the price on one of the HK retailers who are quoting
$6.99 per set, looking at one of the British retailers, they are quoting
£ 6.99, which still indicates an excellent price...
I am very impressed with this, and the other sets. It will be very useful to anyone who is working with German figures in this scale. There isn't a huge amount of variation in the helmets (apart from the helmets with goggles) although the difference between individual figures is notable - not something which is easy to acheive in this scale. For beginners to figure work, a set like this could completely transform a mass-produced set of plastic figures into something very special indeed....
VERY Highly Recommended
