The Salomon Quest 4D GTX was voted one of the top 10 best boots by SEAL Grinder PT, are standard issue for US Army Rangers, and are widely used by the Green Berets and a number of other teams within the special forces community. While Asolo boots and the Merrel Sawtooths remain equally popular among the SEALs, Mark Owen (aka. Matt Bissonette, one of the 2 men credited with killing Osama Bin Laden) documented in his book ‘No Easy Day’ that on the night of the raid on Abbottabad compound he wore Salomon Quest boots which he chose specifically for the great ankle support they provide.
Live Resin recently released Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX boots set (LRE 35331) as an accessory for their own figure line, which can also be used on various other 1/35 scale figures.
The set comes packed in a zip-lock bag secured between a cardboard backings, with CAD box art showing the contents of the kit. The set contains 12 pieces cast in grey resin. The resin looks really good and upon closer inspection I found no evidence of any imperfections in the pieces. The details are very impressive, sharp and well defined, wonderfully delivered in scale.
The boots are cast on three identical carrier blocks, each supplying 4 boots in two pairs. One of the pairs is delivered as a complete boot, while the other pair is cut below the ankle line and features a protrusion on top which should facilitate attaching the boot to the leg. Each pair consists of clearly defined left and right boot. All the Salomon Quest 4D GTX features are beautifully rendered on these 1/35 scale resin pieces. The laces and lace hooks, rubber toe cap, plastic heal guard, sole thread pattern… the details are defined well and are bound to look great once painted.
Conclusion:
Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX boots set (LRE 35331) from Live Resin offers 6 pairs of resin boots in 1/35 scale. 3 pairs are delivered in full height, while 3 pairs are depicted cut below the ankle line. The resin cast is great and the details perfectly defined.
Altogether, Live Resin has yet again produced a very impressive accessory set which could be a welcomed addition for those modeling and kit-bashing modern SF figures in 1/35 scale.
