Introduction

Master continues to expand their range of items for the 1/35th scale armour modeller with two offerings for the German 2cm Flak 30/38.

Review

These offerings from Master are packed inside a Ziploc bag with a card insert, a card hanger is stapled to the top of the bag to act as a hanger and too provide the information on the contents. Inside at the front there is a sealed bag containing the parts that makes up the set, at the rear there is a small instructional paper sheet.

These two offering from Master show just how good they are at what they do. The shell casings in the two sets are hollowed in order to represent fired shell casings in one set and to receive one of three different shell heads in the other. The shell heads provided in one of the sets are API-T, HE-T and PzGr.40. the acronyms stand for Armor-Piercing Incendiary Tracer, High Explosive Tracer and Panzergranate 40. Master has provided five of each shell type and these are incredibly detailed, especially so with the very small size; I had enough trouble handling them with fine tweezers let alone having the task of turning such tiny parts.

The spent shell cases have a very nice level of detail with the taper of the casing being well represented. Where the shell head would be located you can see the band present that would seal the head in place. At the rear of the casing there is the ring that the weapon uses to withdraw the casing from the chamber. The set that offers the spent shell casings provides 25 cases which are enough to add a nice smattering to a model or diorama. The set that has the shells themselves offers 15 casings to match the number of shells.

Conclusion

These two offerings show me just how good Master is at what they do and the detail they can provide. I was only able to appreciate the detail of these offerings in the photographs I took and I cannot see how you would not be impressed. The parts themselves will add a really pleasing detail to any build or diorama where one of the numerous 20mm weapons systems the Germans used during World War 2.

While these are indeed beautifully-machined brass pieces I question the usefulness of having the shell offered in two seperate parts -it's not like you're going to put them on the dio that way as they were not made as two-part shells in the first place so why not simply machine complete rounds and empties? Emphasis on LOTS of empties please.
