US OIF Head Set #2

by: Mario Matijasic [ MAKI ]

Warriors' U.S. OIF Head Set #2 (WA 35584) consists of 6 heads: four of them taken from their USMC Radio Team OIF/OEF (WA 35588) and two of them from their ATGM Crew OIF (WA 35579).

The heads are cast in cream resin with very nice facial details and expressions. The cleanup should be quite easy; there are only resin plugs on top of the helmet to remove. Some careful sanding afterwards and the heads are ready for painting. All heads are wearing standard issue US helmets with new style chin strap system that offers better fit and stabilization of the helmet in combat operations. Two heads also have molded on goggles on their helmets, protected with “sock cover”.

A drawback of this set is the fact that the four heads taken from USMC Radio Team are actually two pairs of almost identical heads; the difference being one of the heads in a pair wears sunglasses! While this is a good thing in the USMC Radio Team set, giving you the option of choosing between two slightly diverse heads for each figure, I feel that a Head Set should have heads with different facial details and expressions.

Although U.S. OIF Head Set #2 offers less diversity than one would expect I still like the heads very much as they are superbly sculpted and the facial details are very crisp. If you need heads for OIF/OEF figure conversions you will be very happy with this set… just don’t try putting all the heads on the same diorama as the similarity of the “head pairs” will probably be noticed.

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...
