Review

This version is equipped with a AN/PWG-1 Lightweight Video Sight, linked to a ballistic computer and laser rangefinder, which enables the operator to identify and accurately engage targets, day or night. The fire control system can be used to program PPHE grenades to air burst above the target - ideal for engaging troops sheltering behind cover. The weapon features a Picatinny rail for the mounting of additional sensors such as a thermal sight.

Also mounted on this MK47 is a AN/PAS-13 Thermal Weapons Sight (TWS). It is a portable infrared sensor that can be used to acquire targets at long range, at night and during the day. It is a passive system which means it does not emit any signals that can be detected by the enemy. Unlike image-intensifier systems, a thermal sight is not susceptible to 'bloom' issues, i.e. being overwhelmed by sudden bright sources of light. The PAS-13 comes in light (v1), medium (v2) and heavy (v3) versions. The v1 is typically fitted to weapons such as M16 rifles or rocket launchers such as the M136 (AT4). The v2 may be mounted on light and medium machine guns such as the M249 or M240. The v3 is typically mounted on longer range systems such as sniper rifles, M2 machine guns and Mk19 grenade launchers. The sights feature a data port that allows them to be connected to external equipment such as recording devices. Various reticules can be programmed into the units depending on mission needs. The sights run on disposable lithium or re-chargeable lithium-ion batteries.

The model

Once again, Legend Productions has come out with an outstanding product in their 3D line. Four different kits of the MK 47 are available, two being on tri-pods and the same two being vehicle mounted. This is one of the vehicle mounted kits.

The kit consists of 34 parts, all molded in gray resin. Extras are given for parts 8, 9, and 34 because they are so small. All the parts are easily removed from the pour blocks without damage to the part, unless you just have big fingers. Cleanup of the parts is a breeze with a sharp brand-new X-Acto blade. Two lengths of different diameter brass wire are provided for the cables. I went with lead wire instead since it is more flexible than brass wire.

The build was done in three sub-assemblies, the gun, gun cradle and sights, and the ammo box in rack. The cables where attached after all three sub-assemblies where put together.
SUMMARY
Highs: Like the addition of cable connectors.
Lows: Cable connectors are very small and can be easily lost. Brass wire should be replaced with lead wire.
Verdict: Although limited to use in vehicles and dioramas of US Special Forces or Rangers, this kit is a great addition to your 1/35 arsenal. Great detail right down to the smallest cable connector.
