In 1943 Porche firm built five towing vehicles for heavy anti-tank units. These were based on the Tiger (P) and were equipped with extra armor plate as well as a crew compartment at the rear of the hull. One 7.92mm MG was added for self defense. Unlike other German recovery tanks the Tiger (P) had no specialized equipment for recovering disabled vehicles other than a crane.
The kit
This kit is another in Dragons run of 1/72 scale armor and like many of those it has a sibling in a 1/35th scale version as well. The kit is well molded with no flash. There are 7 sprues of parts including 2 for tracks which are link and length plastic type. There is one phtoetched fret containing the chains for the deployed crane and these are very delicate parts. While they are one dimensional in this scale these should look quite convincing once installed and painted. There are markings for 4 vehicles of which two served in Italy and two in Russia. The kit does not contain the zimmerit and I am assuming the reason for this is two of the vehicles on the markings were not zimmeri covered. So if you wish to model the other two schemes be advised you are going to have to make your own zimmerit.
in conclusion
This is a nice release and looks to be a fun if not quick build and would look nice on a diorama next to a Tiger or Elefant.
SUMMARY
Another interesting Dragon release in 1/72 scale which covers the rare German recovery vehicle. Kit contains individual link tracks, photo etch chains and options to stow or deploy the crane.
