introduction
Eduard produced their first 1/35th armour kit only a few months ago and now produce this photo-etch set for their own kit.
set contents
This is only a small set, comprised of two frets of photo-etch, neither of which are large, and one is quite small. The instructions only run to 2 sides, which should give some indication of the simplicity of the set. The first improvement offered by Eduard is a new ammunition rack, only it doesn’t so much replace the one given in the kit as it’s additional. I’m not sure of the accuracy of it, and it is marked as optional. I’ve never seen one like it in photographs of Hetzers I’ve seen, although I suspect it’s for the late version? There are a few other improvements for the fighting compartment, although even with all the hatches open I doubt much of them can be seen on the finished model. There are also retaining clamps for the shells in their racks, again hard to see on the finished model but very conspicuous by their absence on the original kit release.
Then we come to the outside and the fenders. Complete new fenders are included, both front and rear, with brackets. These are an improvement over the kit parts and will allow you to realistically represent damage. There is also a new Notek light bracket, and tool box, plus brackets for the jacking block. Also included is a new shield for the remotely controlled machine gun
in conclusion
Although lower in price than most Eduard sets, this set doesn’t include a lot that can be seen on the finished model. The fenders are nice, but one has to wonder why they couldn’t have been included in the original kit release? Especially since there were misgivings about the recommended price?
