Introduction

Those modellers amongst us who enjoy tackling figures in their own right or as part of a work piece often turn to oil and acrylic paints supplied in tubes. As with many things in the world cost does have some relation to quality of a product and this is especially true where paint is concerned, I am sure many of us have purchased what seems a bargain and then been unhappy with the result managed with the product. Scale 75 have had their own line of Acrylic paint for some time aimed specifically at the modeller and I have been given the chance to take a look at them.

Review

These paints are available in two ways; you can purchase individual colours as you want them or there are a number of sets available aimed at basic colours and specific painting tasks. Let’s take a look at the set I was sent for review first and that is the basic colors offering from Scale 75. This set provides six paints which are:
SART-01 White
SART-02 Black
SART-03 Primary Blue
SART-04 Primary Yellow
SART-05 Primary Red
SART-06 Burnt Sienna Umber

The tubes of paint are supplied in a metal tube which I believe are Aluminium. Each of the tubes contain 20ml of paint with the aluminium tube providing the modeller with good control over how much paint is expelled from the tube. One thing that surprised me with these paints is that the tubes are not sealed and so when you remove the plastic screw cap the paint is exposed.

The paint set are presented in a very nice card box with separate lid which instantly gives the impression of a quality product. Inside the six tubes are held in place by two strips of shaped rubber/high density foam. Again the way this presents the paint gives the impression of quality and makes it easy to see what is provided, it is this little touches that instantly bring quality to mind. This is finished off with a fold out sheet that provides suggested uses for the provided paint colours and shows their use to great effect.

The individual paints are supplied in a nice card box with an open panel that provides the modeller with a visual guide to the colour in the tube. The tubes again contain 20ml of paint with the aluminium tube providing the modeller with good control over how much paint is expelled from the tube. Again I was surprised that the tubes are not sealed and so when you remove the plastic screw cap the paint is exposed.

I spent some time trying to think how best to show the use of these paints; I considered painting an item to see what the result was, but it would be a test of my ability rather than those of the paint and so I tried an alternate approach. I placed a blob of paint onto some paper and then used an old credit card to move the paint. As I moved the paint I altered the amount of pressure on the card and the result can be seen on the paper. I was impressed with the results I got without trying and I was very pleased with how smooth the paint was zero grains that I came across.

Conclusion

The result of all this is that I am impressed with the paint provided in many ways. The presentation is professional and high quality. The paint is of a high quality that dried very quickly when spread at its thinnest on paper being touch dry almost immediately. The variation in colour depending on the thickness can be clearly seen and I was pleased with the result. Something I had not considered is that these paints can be spray painted after thinning, something that does not jump immediately to mind.

Thanks for posting Darren, these look very promising. I have several of their acrylic uniform sets, and they give great results as well as being great price wise.
