In-Box Review
135
Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D Toolboxes

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

introduction

As everybody knows, the recent flurry of 251's was not confined to just Dragon. AFV Club issued theirs too, with 5 Ausf. D's in their range. This update set from Eduard allows one to inflict realistic damage to the toolboxes that are on top of each fender, or even have all six of them open as for a diorama setting for example. This is not intended as an exhaustive review, but merely a first look at what's exactly included in the set.

fret contents

There are 2 decent sized frets included in this set, and an instruction leaflet that runs to two sides. The instructions are up to the normal Eduard standard, i.e. very clear indeed and showing exactly what might need to be removed, and how the various photo etched parts need to be installed.

The complete tool box assembly on both sides is replaced with this set. The large framework for each side comes as one large part which is folded, and added to these once installed are the various parts that make up the doors, latches etc.

There is inside bracing etc. provided for each toolbox, which means they can be installed open and will look the part. There's even a set of photo etched tools supplied although these can look a bit flat, dependent on where they are placed.

Each of the doors has a long piano-style hinge, which as usual with Eduard sets is only a representation of a hinge, and cannot be made to work, merely folded if the door is to be displayed open. The box that hold the latch on each door is represented, along with photo etched chain, which again is probably better replaced as it's a bit 'flat', and the hasp and padlock are also supplied.

conclusion

A very simple set that contains everything you need to display your 251 Ausf.D toolboxes open or damaged. Recommended.

My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
