Although this is a first-look review, a full-build of the Trumpeter BR 52 Locomotive using all 4 of Eduard's sets will shortly be available to read as a Feature article.
The Trumpeter BR 52 kit has been out a while now, and various upgrade options have started to appear. Eduard have the sensible approach and offer photo etched upgrades in four different sets. This set is to replace the smoke deflectors on either side at the front of the engine. The ones in the kit actually don't look that bad, although they do represent what look like wooden deflectors, whilst the Eduard ones represent steel ones. From the pictures I can find of the real thing, Eduard's are the accurate ones, or at least appear on more pictures than the wooden-like ones supplied in the kit.
The set is supplied as two normal sized frets of photo etch, one deflector on each, along with the associated brackets, and a load of nuts! Actually I'm not sure about the nuts...... they achieve the correct thickness by folding two of them together. They'll do the job if they're all you have, but you'd be better off replacing them with nuts made using a punch and die set, hex rod, or Grandt line ones.
in conclusion
Highly recommended!
My thanks to Eduard for the review sample.
