The smaller scale of 1/48 continues to expand, and the after market sector continues to follow, this set from Eduard being for the 1/48th scale Tamiya KV-1. This again, is not intended as a review, but just a closer look at what you actually get in the set.
set contents
Only one average-sized fret of photo etch is supplied in this set, although the instructions do run to three sides, which should give you some idea of the complexity of the set. there are no massive parts to be installed, nearly all of them being quite small.
The first thing to be offered are replacement grills for the rear of the engine. The construction for this looks quite complicated, with a subframe being constructed, then another frame on top of that, then the mesh. This is so that the peculiar compound curve of the original mesh can be achieved, and two of these have to be constructed, one for each side. In addition we're given a new mesh for underneath the overhang at the rear of the engine deck, which again, need to be curved, but in a more simple way this time. We're also offered four quadrant shaped brackets to support this screen.
The long wood saw often seen on these vehicles is provided in photo etch, along with it's holding bracket, along with various brackets for the lights etc.
The triangular supports for the fenders are provided, each of these being made from a double thickness of photo etch. Straps are provided for the stowage areas on the fenders, as well as new hinges and hasps for the stowage or tool boxes themselves.
Moving onto the turret we have new detail for inside the main hatch, which will mean careful removal of all the moulded on detail, along with a complete mounting bracket for the DT machine gun.
