Photo-etch Sandbag hull frames
1/48th M4A3 Sherman Sandbag Hull Protection for Hobby Boss kit

by: Frank Portela [ CLANKY44 ]

what's in the bag
This set consists of two frets of photo-etch. giving you all the framing necessary to construct sand bag holders for the front and the sides of the hull. No other photo-etch is provided therefore I would suggest purchasing Eduard's external sets for either the M4A3 75, set number 28055 or set number 28062 for the M4A3 76, reviewed previously...

First impressions

Of course to achieve the full look you will need to fill in these frame supports with sand bags. A challenging endeavor considering the delicate nature of the PE and the bulged look of the sandbags once in place. I would suggest tracing a cut-out of the sides of the hull onto cardboard and building the sandbags around the cardboard frame. Adding the bulges to the sandbags by crimping where the P.E. frames belong. Sculpting the sand bags is best done using a two-part Apoxie.

SUMMARY
Highs: The usual clear instructions by Eduard. Together with set number 28062 for the M4A3 76, Eduard gives you all that is needed to upgrade your Hobby Boss Sherman.
Lows: Patience and previous experience with sculpting should be mandatory if one is to tackle this job.
Verdict: A good but delicate set of P.E. for the experienced modeller.
