Legend are now well established as a producer of quality resin upgrades, kits and detail sets. There latest for the AFV club / trumpeter Stryker is no exception and continues to build an a well set formula.
In the box
The parts now come in the standard legend box, which is made from a good sturdy cardboard, this may not seem important but with a lot of modellers now buying from oversea via the Internet you want to know the kit / parts will arrive all in one piece. The Box has a good quality picture on the top showing the contents in a unpainted form and also giving you an idea of what is contained with in. On opening the box you are presented with a large bag of resin bits wrapped in a piece of bubble wrap to further protect them during transit. There is also a piece of lead foil and a piece of brown paper which has 15 MRE packs for you to cut out.
Contents
If you are like me, you really want to know what you get when you buy an accessory pack to see if what you are actually getting for your money. So to break the contents down here is what arrived in this one
1 x spare stryker wheel 1 x roll off barb wire 2 x folded sleeping cots 2 x binoculars 4 x US helmet's 1 x large block multiple items 6 x large ammo cans 6 x medium ammo cans 6 x small ammo cans 10 x water cans 4 x rolled covers 2 x rolled sleeping bags 2 x large rolled sleeping bags 2 x rucksacks with dust covers 6 x duffel bags (2 x 3 different variations) 12 x Alice packs(3 variations) 1 x sheet of MRE packs 1 x small sheet lead foil 2 x boxes of MRE ration packs 5 x individual MRE ration packs 48 x strap buckles
So all in all quite a few items, the big surprise is the addition of the MRE ration packs, two of which are designed to go into the paper MRE boxes so you can leave them open to show whats in side, Legend are the first manufacture to do this and it is from a diorama view an excellent addition. Add to this the inclusion of the individual MRE packs and you really are onto a winner. But that is not all, you may be wondering why they included lead foil in this pack and ill explain, when you look at a lot of strykers in the field they have a mesh strap tie down system across the top to hold down every thing as they travel, the lead foil is there so that you can add this as individual straps rather than it being cast on to the large block of items, hopefully this should make it look a little more realistic and be easier to paint. add to this the individual strap buckles and you really are able to build a slightly different and individual vehicle than the next modeller.
Conclusion
All in this is again another excellent stowage set from Legend, there are a couple of great ideas added into the set (the MRE inserts and packets and the tie down system, but there are also a couple of minor problems. I personally don't like large pieces of stowage, they usually have great casting blocks on them (this one is no exception) so you can damage them as you remove the casting block, They are awkward to paint I would much rather have them as individual pieces so that i can arrange and glue them as I see fit, again adding a little bit of individuality to the model. All the rucksacks are of the Alice variety and not the modern Mollie type, which does let this set down a little if you wanted to put it on a more modern version of the stryker. Yes these are small personal gripes and in no way take from the quality of the kit, the casting is excellent and nearly all the items can be used on other modern subjects not just the stryker. I would highly recommend this set to any body looking for modern stowage for there models.
SUMMARY
Highs: MRE box inserts and individual packs, tie down buckles and straps, quality of casting and overall items in the set.Lows: large block of stowage and would like to see some Mollie packs included, rather than re-runs of older stowage setsVerdict: Highly recommended to the modern armour builder, as it is more a universal stowage set than just a stryker one
