Released alongside the eagerly-anticipated new Churchill kit (item AF 35153), is AFV Club’s workable track link set. Representing the T-144 double pin latter-pattern type with cleated bar, this set can be also used to give new life to the ancient Tamiya Churchill kit.
After using 74 links for each side of the AFV Club Churchill, you are left with plenty of spares –great to use as extra armor for your Churchill.
I used 74 on each side to facilitate connecting the two ends of the track together on the tank: assembling them with this little bit of slack makes this final step much easier, and looks more realistic. The only real work involved prior to assembly is to give each side of the tongue-shaped connectors a quick sand. Aside from which, the links go together very easily. Be precise when applying cement sparingly to the links.
Once assembled, they articulate perfectly, fit both AFV Club and Tamiya sprockets, and come moulded in manganese brown for easy painting. These links give the modeler a nice upgrade over the standard vinyl tracks provided with the new AFV Club Churchill kit, and fit the old Tamiya Mk VII and Crocodile kits equally well.
SUMMARY
Highs: Easy assembly and great detail. Can be used to upgrade Tamiya Churchill kits. Lows: Connecting the ends of the tracks together on the tank is a bit tricky.Verdict: Christmas shopping for Allied armor fans is a breeze this year!
