The German Engineers with Goliath Demolition Vehicles, Dragon kit # 6103 is a small
kit. This kit depicts the first production run of the Goliath Sd Kfz 302 (E-Motor) that is operated by two electric motors. The electric motors were powered by side mounted batteries with a range of
1.5 Km. Control of the Goliath was remotely operated with 2000 feet of three strand
telephone cable spooled inside the vehicle and connected to a control box carried by
an engineer. The forward compartment carried up to two hundred pounds of explosive
that could be detonated via the control box. Goliath was 5 ft long, 2 ft high, 2 ft 10 in
wide with a speed of 5 to 12 mph. The Goliath was usually transported to the front
line on a two wheeled trailer.
Kit contents
The kit is packaged in the Dragon open top box. The sprues (all four of them) come in
sealed bags. The instruction sheet, painting guide is a one page affair with both sides
being used. Included in the kit are the following:
• 2 x grey sprues (C) Goliath Demolition Vehicles
• 2 x grey sprues German Engineers
Review
The kit looks quite respectable with no flash or ejection marks. Some cleanup will be needed on seams on the sides of Goliath. The small tracks will need attention cutting them away from the sprue, as there are thick attachment points. Some small bolt detail on the front shows up very well.
The cable drum that is inside the Goliath is a bit thick looking, but should be suitable once some thin wire is wound around it for control cable. The rear hatch can be left open showing the control cable spool. There are two engineers per goliath, and the figures are crisply moulded with the usual seams. The personnel equipment of the engineers is minimal, the kit includes just the basic items.
Conclusion
This is a crisp but small kit. You also get a double round of fun with two of everything. The sprue connection points on some of the smaller pieces look pretty thick, so be careful when detaching. One set of figures can be set aside to use as parts or for modification. The painting guide on the instruction sheet looks a bit short of colors.
SUMMARY
Highs: The kit is of good quality and inexpensive. This will make a nice accessory for a diorama.Lows: The kit screams out for PE tracks and a transport trailer. The color chart is not much to work with. Verdict: This looks like a nice kit to build. The small track links could cause problems along with the idler wheels.
